Scientific Stature Internship
HR Directions seeks a prospect for its client RTI International for the Scientific Stature Internship within the Library and Information Services department and RTI Press.
The Scientific Stature Hub includes the Library and Information Services (LIS) department and the RTI Press. Together they support the execution of RTI's mission by enriching, tracking, and disseminating RTI research to elevate the Institute's scientific stature. Specifically, LIS provides research services, resources, and support and the Press is a global publisher of peer-reviewed, open-access publications. The SSH is a part of the Corporate Communications group.
The Scientific Stature Intern will validate and curate metadata in RTI's institutional repository, and work with various metadata to improve discoverability of Press publications, with exposure to a range of indexing processes, formats, and requirements for different databases/repositories. The Intern will assist with special projects related to promoting scientific stature or better efficiency within data management. There may be possibilities to explore other library and information science specialties, such as online literature searches, document delivery, website maintenance, and reporting. Through this experience, the Intern will gain exposure to database management, data analytics and bibliometrics, and have an opportunity to develop skills using metadata repository technology.
Responsibilities
- Research and curate existing metadata records identified as duplicates, including the review of publication entries from researchers
- Curate the master metadata for external organizations, events, persons, author collaborations, and publishers
- Obtain citation references from Google Scholar and reformatting of citations using EndNote
- Submit and/or update metadata for publications in existing indexes/databases/repositories (such as NCLive, Carolina Digital Repository, etc.)
- Investigate the process for generating external organizations within the scientific stature database and provide an analysis of possible improvements
- Inventory and document appearance of RTI Press publications in specific indexes/databases/repositories (such as Google Scholar, Crossref/DOIs)
RTI's Internship Program emphasizes experiential and mentored learning experiences, providing students and recent degree recipients an opportunity to apply their academic knowledge and skills in a meaningful and practical way. We are committed to developing the future workforce by encouraging interns to explore various career paths in a nonprofit research institute setting that values diversity and inclusion.
