INTERN EXPERIENCE AT UNITED WAY WORLDWIDE

Interns at United Way Worldwide gain valuable learning and working experience at a leading nonprofit organization. Our goal is to make every intern who works with us feel included, valuable, and productive. In addition to the hands-on experience you’ll receive working at the largest nonprofit in the world, you will be provided with weekly professional development workshops.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS

The internship opportunities are open to current students of a college program, or within 2 years of graduating. Applicants must be eligible to work within the United States and have all documentation at the time of their application, including a Social Security Number.

POSITION DEPARTMENT

Labor Engagement

POSITION SUMMARY

The Labor Engagement Partnership Journalist will be responsible for writing at least 10 pieces (stories for our newsletters, articles, blogs, etc.) about local and national United Way & Labor partnership work. These pieces will be distributed to different audiences across the country with the intent to uplift the great work of the partnership and to share best practices.

PRIMARY PROJECTS

  • Set up time for 30 – 60 minute zoom interview with local United Way labor staff (and possibly national labor partners). Conduct and record the interview. UWW will provide any background information about local partnerships and their work.
  • Write draft of the piece (200 - 1000 words depending on type of piece) in accordance with UWW guide and submit to the UWW Labor Engagement team for feedback and edits.
  • Work with UWW to procure from the local United Way any collateral related to the piece – reports, flyers, brochures, one-pagers, etc.
  • Produce final pieces to UWW Labor Engagement team. (UWW will use in-house team to design and create final documents.)
  • Attend Labor Engagement team meetings as needed – attend UWW staff meetings when available.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Experience conducting interviews over the phone and/or recording them using Zoom.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills – three writing samples required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Office, especially Outlook.
  • Strong project and time management.
  • Experience with nonprofits a plus.
