Requirements:

  • Join the team developing next generation battery cells for Rivian!
  • Work closely with the cell engineering team to get inspired and develop the next generation of cell technology, manufacturing equipment and processes and cell factories
  • Support setting up mixing and material delivery equipments/processes. Your systems will change the environment in our world for the better
  • Create and support dense and efficient layouts, 3D models, and/or prototypes
  • Learn and apply the science & engineering behind the world of mixing systems
  • Develop and well-document all aspects of highly automated, production-worthy mixing systems and make the operations completely safe
  • Set up, calibrate, and run metrology equipment to characterize materials and products
  • Help solve technically complex problems using fundamental, data driven methodologies
  • Ensure equipment and process compliance with applicable standards, policies, acts, regulations and codes
  • Be part of the solution to the exponential scalability challenges associated with cell manufacturing and help keep Rivian adventurous forever!
  • Utilize your understanding of equipment, material properties, and processing to string together highly efficient and robust mixing systems
  • Participate and run R&D activities for new Mix system design and technologies
  • Combine mechanical, controls, and/or process techniques to establish novel approaches to improve mixing efficiency and material charge/discharge times while maintaining product quality
  • Work with external and internal equipment suppliers and designers to scale up to manufacturing lines
  • Develop equipment and process specifications, assess vendor capabilities and make sourcing recommendations based on data

Qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Materials Science or closely related industry), MS/PhD preferred
  • Previous history of internships, co-ops, or post-doc work in industry highly preferred
  • Experience in mechanical design (2D/3D CAD, P&IDs, PFDs, DFMEA, Hazards Risk Assessments)
  • Experience working with Mixing equipment, Analytical tool analysis, process scale-up, Gauge Repeatability & Reproducibility (GR&R), and/or Metrology preferred
  • Highly data driven; familiarity with statistical-based factorial Design of Experiments (DOE) to make informed decisions preferred
  • Familiar with different analytical analysis test equipment preferred (e.g. SEM, BET, PSA, XRD, ICP-MS, TGA, FTIR, rheology, Instron, etc.)
  • Curiosity: Get excited about coming up with new ideas about equipment, processes, and materials, and ask the questions to make them better! Not afraid to tinker with the interesting and fundamentally sound ideas
  • Highly data driven: Familiar with statistical software and approaches to provide data to make informed decisions. Familiar with statistical-based Design of Experiments (DOE) and mechanical/chemical analytical analysis equipment
  • Critical problem-solving skills: No fear to ask the right people, the right questions at the right time in the right way. Learn all that is needed to get to the bottom of our current bottlenecks to redefined manufacturing
  • Detail oriented: Become an expert in Mixing, Solids and Bulk Handling, Liquid Transfer, and Slurry Transfer. Know them like the back of your hand
  • Execution: Drive open actions to closure – dot all the ‘I’s and cross all the ‘T’s. Make sure the lessons and outcomes are communicated to the crossfunctional teams. Ensure alignment is reached
  • Passionate about new sustainable materials and learning
  • Thrive under pressure: Manage competing demands and tight deadlines of multiple simultaneous projects and challenges. Ability to follow through and make significant progress in a fast pace, demanding, dynamic environment
  • Strong problem-solver: Have skills and aptitude for learning systems quickly
  • Travel the World: Ability to travel both domestically and internationally as needed to accomplish goals, typically with amazing team members
