Job Description

This is a remote position; the selected candidate can reside and perform the work from anywhere within the United States.

We are looking for R&D Interns to craft, design, and develop groundbreaking designs and concepts. In this internship, you will plan and execute collaborative research to generate new knowledge and sophisticated technology for our vehicles. Our culture of "Innovate Now" gives you the opportunity to be creative and implement designs that could possibly be driving around in the near future!

General Purposes of Position:
  • Exposure to all aspects of GM's Corporate Licensing Program
  • Support all stages of licensing of GM's patent portfolio to external third parties to include: Technology evaluation, technology scoping, market analysis, partner identification, and deal formation
  • Exposure to GM's technologies (R&D, battery, vehicle, telematics, etc.)
  • Support all aspects of GM's Research & Development as it relates to Intellectual Property
  • Assist in the growth of General Motors revenue from its Powertrain, Vehicle, and Manufacturing divisions

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in Identifying and cataloging GM's patented Intellectual
  • property for potential licensing
  • Assist in the completion of technology screens to determine licensing potential (technology description, market applications, patent scope)
  • Assist in the identification of potential partners
  • Assist in the development of marketing materials
  • Assist in the development of internal and external business case to promote licensing
  • Maintaining electronic repository of intellectual property maps.
  • Review and update status of current and older patent applications
  • Data clean-up of online intellectual property and intellectual property review board information
  • Performing website maintenance and data management of website/SharePoint files
  • Perform searches through online databases (Innography) of GM and competitor intellectual property
  • Special projects

Additional Job Description

Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in science, engineering or business administration
  • A background or minor in a technical field such as science or engineering
  • Sophomore status or above. Junior or senior preferred

Desired Skills:
  • General understanding of automotive technology
  • General understanding of intellectual property (patents, trade secrets, etc.)
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office software, SharePoint a plus
  • Well-developed communication skills verbal and written
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with direction
  • Able to secure relevant information and identify key issues
  • Outstanding organizational skills and ability to multitask.

The median salary range for this position in Colorado is $4500/month. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law

GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to each student selected for the 2022 Student Program
