Data Science Graduate Intern, Remote, Spring 2022

Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution (DMED) is seeking Data Science Interns for our Enterprise and Content Analytics teams. The interns will support our business partners by developing a rich understanding of how consumers interact with our brands, and delivering new capabilities and consumable insights to Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution and Disney General Entertainment to increase consumer engagement and serve our consumers better than ever. The ideal candidate will have experience in mathematics & statistical techniques used for analyzing large data sources, and an interest in better understanding consumer behaviors related to marketing, content development, and digital experiences.


Responsibilities:

  • Partner in delivering data driven analysis that teams across brands like ABC, Freeform, DCWW, FX, NatGeo, ESPN, Ad Sales, Streaming, and/or Studios can leverage
  • Effectively communicate the “so what” from the data to the business teams.
  • Participate in developing and quantifying KPIs to measure viewer content quality, engagement, and marketing effectiveness.
  • Assist with measuring and quantifying fan journeys and map against Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution and Disney General Entertainment experiences and touch points.
  • Conduct exploratory data mining and analysis to understand customer engagement and retention to identify trends and insights in audience data to improve engagement.
  • Assure quality and accuracy of deliverables through interactions with mentors and business partners.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Programming experience with Python, R, and other tools/statistical programs, like Spark
  • Experience with Big Data databases such as Hadoop, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, etc.
  • An aptitude to learn other technical applications quickly to compile and interpret quantitative data.
  • Experience with extracting accurate conclusions and identifying trends from quantitative information.
  • Experience solving difficult and unclear analytical problems using a combination of scientific approaches from the fields of mathematics, statistics, and operation research.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with:

  • structure and unstructured data
  • video stream, linear viewership data, and digital data
  • digital and mobile data, including online behavior tracking, video players, and apps
  • ad sales data for the media/publishing industry, including rate card, GRPs, Nielsen ratings, and inventory forecasts


Required Education

Currently enrolled graduate student (Masters or PhD) studying Computer Science, Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Math or related field at an accredited college or university

Additional Information:

This position will be working remotely.
  • At the time of application, must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Must provide full work availability
