Public Policy Research Intern
National Journal is hiring a Public Policy Research Intern to join our NSI team. NSI has launched a new product to help corporations weigh how they track and engage on important societal issues ranging from voting rights to climate change to vaccine mandates. We are looking for curious and innovative research interns interested in learning more about these highly politicized societal issues and unpacking the nuances of each debate to help corporations craft meaningful engagement strategies.

What is National Journal’s Network Science Initiative?
The Network Science Initiative (NSI) is a custom research division within National Journal specializing in stakeholder mapping for corporate, association, and nonprofit clients. NSI identifies the people and organizations - from government, industry, think tanks, advocates, and media - with the most influence on key policy decisions, maps their connections within and across their respective communities, and develops tailored messaging and engagement strategies.
Intern Responsibilities:
Conducts intensive and thorough research, tracking the policymakers, media voices, activists, and corporations driving the conversation around societal issues
Synthesizes and analyzes qualitative data into a professional product, contextualizing and interpreting findings to provide a holistic and nuanced characterization of an issue
Works closely with analysts, the Senior Director of New Products & Consulting, and the President of National Journal Research to create analytic memos describing engagement benefits and risks to corporate clients

You are ready to quickly learn new systems and data tools
You are highly organized and able to adapt to quickly changing workflows
You are deeply interested in US policy and politics and while you may be deep on one topic, you are conversant and knowledgeable across a diverse range of subjects
Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:
Experience conducting qualitative research; a strong academic record
Meticulous researcher with unflagging commitment to objective, thorough work
Ability to distill large amounts of information into concise summaries and takeaways
Excellent time management and judgment
Interest in public policy and politics with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Employment Type: Full-time, internship (3 months)
Compensation: The salary for this role is $15/hour.
Remote Status: 100% remote
