Job Description

The Scholars Strategy Network (SSN) seeks a Trainings Intern (or Fellow if the applicant is a graduate student) to help the Trainings Team revise and update its policy engagement and media trainings. The revision will draw on recent findings in the use of research evidence (URE) field to prepare scholars to use their own research in the policymaking process. In addition, the intern will help identify opportunities to expand the reach of the training program. This is designed as an early-career position for a person who is excited to create outreach opportunities for a large and growing network of over 1,600 members across the US. SSN also supports the work of 40 chapters led by volunteer members in 33 states.

The Trainings Intern is a part-time position with an hourly wage between $15-$18 per hour, commensurate with experience. The position requires a commitment of 10-20 hours per week and would take place over Spring 2022. This is a remote position. This position reports to SSN’s Director of Training.

Responsibilities

Among other tasks, the Trainings Intern will:

  • Compile and update an annotated bibliography of existing Use of Research Evidence (URE) research
  • Help prepare interviews with URE scholars, prepare the interview transcripts for analysis, and then analyze the results
  • Work with the Director of Training and the Policy Team to assess and then revise SSN’s existing policy engagement trainings for academic researchers
  • Work to build trainings-related records in Salesforce (no previous Salesforce experience necessary)
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, depending on experience, interest, and department needs.

  • Able to move among tasks and manage task follow-up
  • An excellent writer and proofreader
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and willing to ask questions
  • Excited to learn and apply new skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Apps, Dropbox, Salesforce, and/or Zoom
  • Committed to SSN’s mission, interested in evidence-based policy, and eager to learn more about when and how research is used in policymaking
