The Experiment Internship, Spring 2022

The Experiment is a weekly podcast from The Atlantic and WNYC Studios. We are looking for a highly motivated intern to join our team during the fall season while we continue to work remotely!
Interns work with The Experiment team to learn the ins and outs of production for a weekly narrative series. A successful candidate will be collaborative, communicative, deeply informed on a wide range of topics, and curious about civic structures and cultural myths within the U.S. and abroad.
Qualifications: There are no specific requirements except a passion for our subjects and investigative journalism. Study or experience in journalism and/or radio production is valuable, but not required.
If you would like to be considered for this role you must submit your completed application, your resume, and a cover letter explaining why you would like to intern with The Experiment, and what you hope to gain from your experience. In your cover letter, please be sure to answer the following questions:

  • Tell us about an episode of The Experiment that stood out to you. What made it successful, in your opinion?
  • Describe an episode that you think was less successful. What would have made it stronger?
  • Who do you think would be an excellent guest / what do you think would be an excellent topic for The Experiment?
  • What other podcasts do you listen to regularly?

Responsibilities:

  • Pitching and developing stories
  • Identifying and booking sources
  • Prepping taped interviews for air
  • Research and fact-checking episodes in development
  • Cutting and editing tape (including archival, host interview, and promotional tape)
  • Transcription and script reconciliation
  • Crafting and populating content for website / CMS / Social Media
  • Assisting with administrative tasks as needed

The internship starts: January 18, 2022
The internship ends: May 6, 2022

Eligibility: Any student (undergraduate or graduate) or person who has graduated no more than 12 months prior to the start of the internship period to which they are applying.

Additional Information:

This role is a paid internship with eligibility for college credit. The internship will commence from January 2022 through May 2022, and interns are expected to work 15 hours per week. Exact schedule and hours will be determined with the finalist. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this internship will operate in a fully remote capacity. In order to be eligible you must be authorized to work in the United States and must be working from one of the following locations while working for NYPR: CA, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, MI, NH, NJ, NM, NY, PA, WI, Washington DC.*
