Symetra's Internship Program for Summer 2022 is entirely remote - all interns will learn and work in a virtual setting. The internship duration is 12 weeks.

Be part of a growing Data Analytics team at Symetra! This team acts as an internal consulting group to all business units in Symetra including Life Insurance, Retirement, and Benefits.

Responsibilities

• Import, clean, and prepare data sets in SQL Server
• Support staff and teams on data analysis and data visualization projects
• Provide business insights using data, business intelligence, and predictive analytics
• Assist in creating data stories and turning insights into action and value
• Document, organize, and communicate thoughts and ideas effectively
• Team player and partner with business units on projects
• Engage in Symetra Data Analytics community and support creating Data Analytics best practices
• Other projects and analysis on an as needed basis

• Currently pursuing or recently graduated from a 4-year college degree, or advanced program in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or other quantitative field.
• Eager to learn about insurance products and industry
• Good understanding of relational data structures
• Experience with Power BI, Power Query and DAX
• Knowledgeable in Microsoft products such as Excel and PowerPoint
• Knowledgeable in SQL and at least one open-source platform such as R or Python
• Some familiarity with AWS cloud services such as S3, EC2, Sagemaker, DynamoDB, etc.
• Strong knowledge of model selection and validation
• Knowledge of data mining techniques
• Ability to independently research relevant topics, enlighten the team based on findings
• Ability to determine when to use a simple analytic solution and when to use advanced analytical solutions
