Ensuring the health and safety of everyone that works at CO-OP is of primary importance to us. The majority of our organization continues to be in a work-from-home status. This allows for better social distancing practices for those of our employees that do remain in our office locations. We continue to work diligently to maintain everyone's health and safety by keeping the facilities clean, having everyone screened for temperatures upon entry and providing information about symptoms and what to do if employees feel sick. Our COVID response team has been working tirelessly since March and continues to provide transparent communication around COVID cases and re-entry plans.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented Technical Writing Intern to develop and write a variety of end-user product documentation including, quick start, implementation, and user guides. This position determines the needs of the audience, organizes the structure of technical documents, and writes information to meet the needs of the audience so they may easily find and consume the information. A Technical Writer interprets the thoughts and ideas of engineers, programmers, and other technical staff, translating complex concepts and procedures into concise documents in simple language.
  • Our Spring Internship Program takes place January 10-May 6, 2022.


What You Can Look Forward to
  • Collaborates with departments across CO-OP as part of a project team to produce a wide variety of technical publications.
  • Researches both technology and existing documentation such as design documents, technical drawings, product specifications, UAT testing, and subject matter expert interviews to gather information to complete documentation.
  • Creates, updates and maintains deliverables including but not limited to: technical manuals, instructional material, diagrams, process flows, step by step instructions, policy and procedures, and product documentation for internal and external audiences.
  • Designs and formats documents that adhere to standards for optimum presentation, appeal, readability, and ease of ongoing maintenance.
  • Identifies, selects and incorporates visuals with written content.
  • Writes and edits content for assigned materials; adheres to and manages materials throughout design, development, draft, edit, review, and publishing.
  • Supports efforts to standardize documentation accessibility.
  • Solicits and incorporates feedback, and revises documents as needed.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Responsible for reporting risks that are identified to the appropriate team and/or management. Additionally, responsible for managing, monitoring and reporting risks within the scope of your work area, to include, but not limited to Information Security risks.

What You'll Need to Succeed
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in communications, technical writing or management information systems; and/or equivalent experience.
  • 1-3 years writing experience in technical communications.
  • Thorough command of English grammar and foundational knowledge of technical writing and business communication standards.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; able to adapt to a standard technical writing style, write clearly and concisely, and convey information in multiple formats for a variety of audiences.
  • Able to analyze material, discern key information, and present in manner best understood by target audience.
  • Able to formulate questions to gain understanding, capture necessary information, and ask appropriate follow-up questions.
  • Able to effectively communicate with all functional areas and all levels of CO-OP Financial Services.
  • Excellent organizational skills; attention to detail and consistency.
  • Able to multitask and prioritize assignments to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Able to work effectively in an ambiguous and/or unstructured environment and adapt to unexpected project scope and/or deadline changes.
  • Desire to learn about new and emerging technologies.
  • Familiarity with financial services technology is a plus.
  • Experience working in an Agile project environment is a plus.
  • Understanding of credit union industry and the underlying solutions that drive payments preferred.
