Internship - Department of Strategic Impact

$12.98 an hour
Job Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Strategic Impact, this position assists in the development, coordination, and management of departmental projects and programs, including high profile multi-year projects and programs with a Countywide/regional impact. This position will assist in the development and implementation of the departmental objectives in areas such as economic development, land use and agricultural mapping, and data analysis, storage, and maintenance.

This is a part-time, non-benefited, paid internship starting in January 2022 - March 2022. The intern will be based at the Fillmore Complex in West Olive, MI, with the opportunity for possible remote work as approved.

Essential Job Functions

The essential functions of this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Researches, analyzes, and reports on immigrant immersion data and tools from various communities around the country.
  • Identifies grant funding and sponsorship opportunities related but not limited to, non-motorized pathways, groundwater mitigation, immigrant immersion, farmland protection, and attainable housing and develops proposals for submission.
  • Utilizes GIS data to create maps, presentation materials, report graphics, and other requested products.
  • Performs other functions as assigned to ensure successful planning of current and prospective County initiatives, programs, projects and sustainable economic growth and development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Training and Experience

High school diploma and a minimum of six completed credit hours of general education at an accredited college or university.

Additional Requirements and Information

The qualified candidate will have the following knowledge and skill:


  • Computer literacy, including working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets; experience with database management and statistical applications software is desired.
  • Thorough working knowledge of GIS software applications and GPS data collection and analysis.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proficiency in interpersonal and human relations skills.
  • Ability to interact positively and professionally with County and local unit elected officials and employees, community and business representatives, funding agency representatives, and members of the general public with widely divergent socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and varying levels of planning knowledge and communication skills.

Working Conditions:
Work is generally performed in a normal office environment with the potential for remote work as approved.
