Internship Description

GLAAD’s internship program is a unique opportunity to contribute to the inner workings of a national leader in the fight for LGBTQ acceptance. The Communications/PR intern will work with the Communications team on writing media pitches, posts for GLAAD's blog, and conducting proactive outreach that communicates GLAAD's work to the public. The role also involves preparing media lists, writing and editing communications materials, producing organizational emails, and writing articles about GLAAD's work. The Communications/PR intern will also work closely with the Communications Manager to support the submissions and nominations for the GLAAD Media Awards.

This role requires an energetic, dedicated, and detail-oriented person who can manage multiple tasks. This individual is a team player with an entrepreneurial spirit, willingness to learn, and ability to manage multiple tasks while adapting to shifting priorities. This will be a hybrid remote 3-month, part-time paid internship.

Responsibilities

  • Help to produce talking points, statements, blog posts, and other written materials for GLAAD's initiatives, as well as rapid response work
  • Assist with media outreach for major GLAAD campaigns and events, including Spirit Day and the GLAAD Media Awards
  • Support campaign execution of GLAAD’s work to elevate LGBTQ issues and people in the media
  • Help to compile information for daily earned media reports and weekly newsletters for internal purposes
  • Support the GLAAD Media Awards submissions and nominations process, including organization of the call for submissions, organizing database of potential nominees, etc
  • Assist with proactive research about trends in LGBTQ news, entertainment, and more


General Knowledge & Competencies

  • A self-starter and creative thinker with interest and experience in public relations
  • Successful and experienced in drafting media pitches, press releases, news articles, and other communications materials
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines, and desire to be a self-starter
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable about LGBTQ media outlets.
  • Strong commitment and passion for GLAAD’s mission and core values
  • Proficiency with office technologies including G-Suite and MS Office Suite


Education

The ideal candidate is a recent graduate (graduated within the past year) or an undergraduate/graduate student in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, digital media fields.
