Front-End Software Engineer - Intern

We are hiring multiple Front-End Software Engineer Interns. This position combines the best features of both a start-up and an established corporation. You’ll be working with a small team of remote interns in a fast-paced environment to participate in the development of our design system . The design system internship team is a part of the UX Design Team, surrounded by a great team of experts, you will have the opportunity to grow in skills on multiple subjects.

We’re seeking a Front-End Software Engineer intern to join the Design Systems team to help continuously build our component library and positively impact the development of nearly all of S&C's software products. You will work closely with designers and other Front-End Software Engineers to provide technical guidance, deliver accessible, robust components, and create front-end developer tooling that S&C uses across its products. The ideal candidate for the Front-End Software Engineer intern position is ready to bring their skills to a driven team that is working on ground-breaking technology.

What needs to be done?

  • Contribute to and assist in maintaining a Design System containing elements, components, and patterns to support enterprise-scale products
  • Build highly-interactive React components, applying industry best-practices
  • Write, maintain, test, and document new and existing React components
  • Solve challenges arising from developing components used by many highly-interactive applications across S&C
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and mature our best practices and core concepts
  • Participate in peer code reviews, offering mentorship and guidance to teammates
  • Follow best development practices and work in an Agile environment
  • Have a proactive approach to improving the application with every sprint
  • Write efficient, scalable, and maintainable code
  • Understand the overall application framework and architecture
  • Write technical documents, including architecture diagrams and API descriptions

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with software engineering
  • Excellent UI front-end implementation experience
  • Experience with:
    • HTML
    • CSS
    • Javascript
    • Open source technologies and frameworks
    • React JS
    • VCS
    • Git
  • Preferred experience with:
    • Clean architecture
    • TypeScript
  • Understanding of relational and nonrelational d atabases
  • Hands-on experience with Linux
  • Self-motivation to complete tasks independently
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical team members
  • Ability to identify and leverage the various skillsets of team members to more effectively approach tasks
  • 1 - 5 Years Experience

Relevant Experience Required: CSS, Javascript, React, Agile
