Software Engineer - Intern
S&C Electric Company works to build innovative solutions with the smart grid as a part of the electric power distribution system
We are seeking paid, full-time Summer Interns who would enjoy a fast paced, dynamic team-based work environment. Software Internships are available remote and will work with team members based in Alameda, CA, Chicago, IL, Rockville, MD or remote.
The Software Engineering teams within S&C has a start-up mentality and is growing fast! You can expect to be busy and have ample opportunity to prove your worth within an agile, communicative, and fun environment. You will be teamed with an experienced Engineer and 2-3 other interns working at remote locations to learn, collaborate, and complete a project that tackles real-world problems.

What needs to be done?
- Work with cross functional team members to coordinate the development of software applications
- Follow best development practices and work in an Agile environment
- Have a proactive approach to improving the application with every sprint
- Learn the latest technologies and collaborate with your fellow team members
- Work with team members to coordinate the development of new features
- Produce unit, functional, and integration tests when possible
- Participate in peer code reviews
- Write efficient, scalable, and maintainable code
- Understand the overall application framework and architecture
- Write technical documents, including architecture diagrams and API descriptions
- Create and present a team report at end of project.
Is this job right for you? Here’s what we’re looking for in a job candidate:
- Must be currently enrolled in a full-time degree program and returning to the program after the completion of the internship.
- Good standing as a student at the Bachelors, Masters or PhD level at an accredited university majoring in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Information Systems or related major.
- At least one programming class in any language towards a degree program completed with a grade of B or better; and a basic understanding of programming principles.
- Understanding of data modelling concepts and various data storage formats (JSON, XML)
- Understanding of common data structures and algorithms.
- Excellent communication skills

- Android or iOS or ReactNative programming

- HTML/CSS
- API ( Rest )
- IoT (any protocol or tools )
- Bluetooth
- Raspberry PI
- Hands on experience with Linux
- Understanding of relational and non-relational database
