What Your Job Will Be Like


We are seeking a Summer R&D Graduate Intern to join our dynamic team! The position entails working in and supporting operations in Tech Area V which consists of two research reactors, the Annular Core Research Reactor and the Critical Experiments reactor, an Auxiliary Hot Cell Facility for waste processing, a Gamma Irradiation Facility, and a Radiation Metrology Laboratory. These student internships exist to assist in various assignments related to the operations, maintenance, and configuration management of nuclear facilities and associated experimental activities.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Perform analytical analysis in support of irradiation effects and nuclear core performance
  • Provide Research and Developmentsupport in reactor operations, radiation effects experiments, radiation dosimetry, and critical assembly technical design
  • Proved Research and Development support for configuration management of key nuclear safety systems and experimental equipment in utilized in reactor experiments, reactor operations, engineering and maintenance

Qualifications We Require


You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Earned bachelor's degree
  • Currently attending and enrolled full time (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience with experimental planning in radiation or nuclear environment
  • Demonstrated experience in nuclear modeling codes
  • Demonstrated attributes of leadership skills
  • Pursuing a graduate degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, Health Physics, or related field

Group 1380, Nuclear Facility Operations and applied Nuclear Technologies, operates unique nuclear and radiological facilities and conducts radiation effects research and analysis supporting the mission of Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) and the nation's interest. Security Clearance
