Law Clerk -Intern

The Summer Law Clerk (Intern) is responsible for assisting with various legal functions, including litigation support, environmental and product compliance research, updating contract templates and language libraries, and abstracting relevant data from critical contracts and inputting it a contract management software. The Summer Law Clerk (Intern) reports to the Sr. Corporate Counsel and works in conjunction with internal business units, procurement, legal, outside counsel, and external vendors to ensure efficient and effective completion of all tasks. The ideal candidate is an ambitious, detail-oriented, critical-thinking, tech-savvy professional who is results-driven, takes initiative, enjoys problem solving, and is comfortable thinking outside-the-box.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research on a variety of environmental and product compliance requirements and suggest opportunities to improve existing measures.
  • Support litigation and claims management team in finding quick and favorable resolution of claims.
  • Read contracts to identify key provisions and provide accurate interpretation of terms.
  • Review various leases and other real estate agreements for nuanced differences and use discretion in compiling various provisions into a language library.
  • Research common legal contract clauses for a variety of agreements and recommend updates and revisions such that Harbor Freight’s forms and templates are consistent with industry standard.
  • Potential to assist with the preparation, review, and revision of contracts, NDAs, statements of work, letters, and other documents, as well as work with business units and vendors to facilitate contract review, negotiation, and management.

Requirements

Education (Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree and partial Juris Doctor required.

Skills (Required)

  • Proficiency with Microsoft application suite, especially with MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Highly organized, great attention to detail, thorough, and patient with reviewing lengthy agreements.
  • Capable of working independently without constant supervision.
  • Keen sense of urgency and ability to take initiative and manage stress and strict deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with supervisors, peers, and vendors.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to listen to and follow detailed direction.

Experience (Required)

  • No experience required, but prior experience reading, reviewing, and/or negotiating contracts and legal briefs is a plus.
