2022 Belk Internship Program – Accounting

Position Summary:
As a participant in the Belk Internship Program you will gain real word experience and exposure to various functional areas of Accounting. You will rotate between a few areas of accounting getting exposure to Accounts Payable, Retail Accounting and General Accounting. Accounting Interns will learn key areas of the role including but not limited to developing accruals, journal entries and general ledger accounts. The Internship Program provides exposure to senior leaders, professional development workshops, structured assignments and social events over the 10 weeks in the Summer. Interns will leave understanding the complexity of big box department stores and the excitement of the retail and ecommerce industry. The internship will be hybrid this summer. You will primarily work remotely, but we will bring you onsite to Charlotte a few times over the summer.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Assist in the development of monthly general ledger account reconciliations
Develop reporting and analysis to identify issues and opportunities impacting gross margin
Prepare journal entries and monthly accruals as needed
Review assigned accounts for each monthly close
Assist with partnering with the business to ensure understanding of the activity and to add value to the analytical process
Complete ad hoc projects assigned by the team

Requirements/Qualifications:
Rising college senior planning to graduate in December 2022 or Spring 2023
Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by Belk for this position now or in the future
Proven strong academic performer (GPA of 3.2 or higher preferred)
Majoring in Accounting or Finance
Leadership skills that include professional business ethics, confidence, and self-motivation
Strong business background with ability to analyze data, draw conclusions and take action
Proficient in Excel and MS Office applications
