Photojournalist Intern
3.5
The Kansas City Star is offering an internship for a video storyteller/photographer to be part of our visuals team. This is an opportunity to work with an award-winning team of journalists dedicated to producing journalism that makes a difference in our community. Interns at The Star will be given daily assignments but will also have an opportunity to be right in the middle of helping out with some of our bigger, high-impact projects.
The video storyteller/photographer intern should come equipped with high ideals on the power of good visual journalism, an understanding of journalistic ethics and a willingness to to put in the time and effort to build on the skills you bring. This internship requires that you have a good understanding of the visual storytelling process and have demonstrated that through your portfolio submission.
The intern will cover anything from house fires to in-depth projects. An ability to meet tight deadlines and work from the field is a must. The majority of our visual team's storytelling is done through video but strong still photography skills are a plus. The internship offers opportunities to cover professional sports teams.
We provide Nikon DSLR gear and/or a professional quality Sony camcorder to work with. Laptop will also be provided. Must know how to edit with Premier Pro and Photoshop.
Intern will provide their own vehicle for transportation and must have a valid drivers license and proper insurance. Intern will be required to provide their own cell phone.
