The LA Conservation Corps (“the Corps”) is a private, non-profit organization that has helped at-risk young adults develop themselves since 1986. To date, more than 20,000 young people have participated in the Corps classes and service projects, learning new skills while contributing to the quality of life for residents of the greater Los Angeles area.

The primary mission of the LA Conservation Corps is to provide at-risk young adults with opportunities for success through job skills training, education and work experience with an emphasis on conservation and service projects that benefit the community.
Position Summary
The LA Conservation Corps’ Accounting Operations team is responsible for ensuring that all financial transactions are entered into the Corps’ financial system accurately and adhere to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). As a member of the Accounting Operations team, the Junior Accountant provides accounting support within the Accounting Department. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Accounting and Finance and works closely with the Chief Financial Officer and department/program directors. Qualified candidates must have a minimum of three years of experience in accounting, with at least one year of non-profit accounting experience. Other job-related duties may be assigned, as needed
Responsibilities
General Accounting
- Maintains a current knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial practices.
- Ensures financial transactions are recorded accurately in the Corps’ financial system to ensure adherence to GAAP compliance with internal accounting procedures.
- Prepares and posts journal entries and uploads supporting documentation related to accounting transactions.
- Prepares revenue and expense accrual support schedules for the month-end close.
- Reviews daily trial balance activity reports to ensure accurate general ledger postings.
- Supports monthly post-closing activities by preparing General Ledger (GL) reconciliations and flux analysis reports.
- Assists other accounting staff and payroll with journal entry reclassifications as needed.
- Processes and posts daily bank feed transactions into the proper GL accounts.
- Applies payments to outstanding Accounts Receivables (AR) invoices in the financial system.
- Maintains roll-forward reports to accurately track donor restricted net assets and advances on contracts.
- Tracks and reconciles balance sheet accounts and maintains support schedules and documentation for audit review.
Financial Reporting
- Assists in the preparation of management reports and schedules and flux analysis narratives.
- Assists in the preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules for audits and fiscal reviews.
Budgeting
- Assists in the organization’s annual budgeting process and mid-year budget updates.
Internal Controls
- Reviews and understands Corps processes and procedures to ensure internal controls are maintained, and to protect the organization against fraud.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
- Understanding of GAAP accounting principles.
- Familiarity with Sage Intacct or similar ERP accounting software suite.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in entering financial data.
- Outstanding math and research skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Education And Experience
- Associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required; Bachelor’s degree in these areas preferred.
- Three (3) years of accounting experience, with at least one (1) year of experience in nonprofit accounting.
- Excellent working knowledge of nonprofit accounting including revenue recognition and donor restrictions.
- The ability to present ideas, information, and viewpoints clearly both verbally and in writing.
Other Duties and Requirements
- Must be COVID-19 vaccinated and be able to provide supporting documentation.
- Pass a post-offer drug/alcohol screen test before commencing employment (required to submit for the drug/alcohol screening at a company designated facility).
- Pass a post-offer Live Scan (fingerprint/background clearance-Department of Justice) before commencing employment.
- If a private vehicle is utilized for company purposes validation of a California Class C Driver’s License, validation of driving record and approval of commercial policy insurability is required in conjunction with proof of personal minimum liability insurance coverage per the requirements of the state of California.
- Reference checks will be conducted; employment is contingent upon receipt of acceptable references.
Salary and Benefits
- Salary $60,235 - $76,979 annually. A starting salary higher than $60,235 per year is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale.
- Medical, Dental, Vision Benefits with 100% employer coverage of costs for employee and 80% coverage for additional family members (beginning January 1, 2022).
- 3 weeks of vacation at hire; 11 paid Holidays and 2 weeks of sick time accrued per year (effective January 1, 2022).
- 401k retirement plan with match of up to 4% (effective January 1, 2022).
- Flexible work remote schedule is negotiable.
