Job type

Full Time Contractor
The Journal is a daily narrative news podcast made in partnership between Gimlet and the Wall Street Journal. Each day, we tell one important news story in 15-20 minutes. Our show focuses on money and business, applying those lenses to general news or zooming in on business stories that other outlets do not tell. We have covered everything from the coronavirus’s origins in China to the racial reckoning in corporations after George Floyd’s murder to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s entertainment company. Recently, we published an explosive investigation into Facebook alongside the Wall Street Journal’s print paper.
The Role
The Journal is hiring an intern to join the team for the Winter/Spring of 2022 (January or February through May). This is a paid, full time role based anywhere in North America, working East coast hours.
Our ideal candidate is a fan of the show, an enthusiastic consumer of news, curious about business, and excited about narrative storytelling. We are looking for someone who’s eager to learn the ins and outs of making a daily news show - whether that means supporting hosts or producers in their roles, listening and responding to honest and open feedback, or contributing ideas of their own. Experience with podcasting or audio editing is a big plus.

What You'll Do

  • Find scoring and archival tape for episodes
  • Cut audio for daily productions needs (there will be training on this)
  • Find and book guests
  • Support producers in daily and long-term production needs
  • Attend interviews and edits of episodes in the works
  • Pitch story ideas
  • Help make the best show possible

What You'll Bring

  • Experience in some kind of news environment
  • Some familiarity with audio editing software. If you know protools, great! If not, we’ll teach you.
  • Enthusiasm for working quickly and to a deadline
  • The determination to track down archival audio and facts
  • A low ego and collaborative spirit
  • A desire to tell new, compelling stories
  • A clear and open communication style
  • Humility and a desire to improve
