The Summer Associate Graduate Intern Program is a 10+ week program beginning in June 2022 and ends in August 2022. The long-term intention for this program is to hire interns that prove their aptitude into full time roles. To qualify for an internship, applicants must be currently pursuing a graduate or PHD level degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date after the final day of the internship (December 2022 or later).

Department

Advanced Analytics Focused
Provide independent data science, machine learning, and analytical insights using member, financial, and organizational data to support mission critical decision making for various areas of the organization. Understand business needs and identify opportunities for new products, services, and process optimization to meet business objectives using cutting-edge data science. Create descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive models and insights to drive impact across the organization. Conduct work assignments of increasing complexity, under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment. Intermediate professional within field; requires moderate skill set and proficiency in discipline.

Model Risk Management
Provide independent effective challenge to the models developed by the organization’s business units. This includes conducting model validation, statistical analyses, building benchmark/challenger models, assessing model risk, assessing model performance, ensuring documentation completeness, and identifying and presenting findings to various stakeholders within the business units. Conduct work assignments of increasing complexity, under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment. Intermediate professional within field; requires moderate skill set and proficiency in discipline.

Responsibilities

Summer Associates could build new advanced analytics capabilities in the areas of Machine Learning/AI and develop new models to solve thorny business challenges where traditional analytic methods fail. Summer Associate can develop new capabilities for data visualization and build dashboards that present new views of how our members and NFCU business behaves. Summer Associate can participate in democratizing existing or new capabilities to the analytics end users across the enterprise.

Qualifications

Depending on the area of focus some skills can include:
  • Proficient in a scripting language (Python, R, etc.)
  • Knowledge of SQL
  • Experience with cloud technologies
  • Statistical analysis experience (Data Science/Machine Learning)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Working with ambiguous problems
  • Enterprise transformation experience (or transformation programs in general)
