Communications Analyst Intern
GCIO is seeking an internship candidate for our Emerging Technology Cohort program. The candidate will fulfill the Communications Analyst Intern role, supporting to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Services Portfolio. The Communications Analyst Intern will be responsible for the contributing to the Executive-level Communications Plan by conducting engaging and impactful interviews with various key stakeholders across the organization. The candidate’s efforts will influence the framework for managing and coordinating communications across the portfolio. The candidate will also assist in the development of strategies to obtain, organize, and disseminate information to Health Portfolio team members and key stakeholders through clear and effective communication channels.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with GCIO leaders to understand program goals and support tasks
- Conduct interviews of key stakeholders to help the team gain insights into communications, processes, and areas of opportunity
- Take daily direction and receive professional coaching from senior-level GCIO teammates/leads with an appropriate level of autonomy
- Provide Emerging Technology Cohort program feedback pertaining to experience as a GCIO intern, supporting the government customer
- Contribute to communications gap analyses, helping determine strengths of current approaches and identify opportunities for improvement
- Assist with developing and maintaining portfolio-level communications processes, tools, and resources, leveraging best practices for communications across the portfolio
- Assist in the enhancement of current communications strategies
- Ensure all communications are in support of portfolio objectives and are consistent across delivery channels and stakeholders
- Work in partnership with the VA’s IT Strategic Communications team to ensure branding and style guidelines are maintained
- Leverage and learn communications methods to identify trends throughout the communications lifecycle
- Establish metrics to assess the effectiveness of communications strategies
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
- Education Requirements: At least two (2) years of completed course work and ongoing enrollment in or recent graduation from a Bachelor’s degree program in Business, Communications, Marketing, English, or related technical writing experience
- Must be able to clearly describe professional working experience via this job application and during the interview
- Possess strong analytical skills required to proactively research information and begin compiling initial responses to ad-hoc data calls
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Good decision-making and interpersonal skills
- Strong desire to learn multiple domains throughout the internship – government consulting, Healthcare, IT, Veterans Affairs, and communications
- Ability to work independently and conduct research with minimal guidance and supervision
- Must work 20 to 29 hours weekly, during standard Eastern time zone office hours
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- US Veteran applicants always welcome
- Experience in the project management methodology or experience operating in an agile environment is desirable but not required
- Experience with graphic design and video production is a plus but not required
- Experience within a Health IT environment is also a plus but not required
