Are you looking for professional research, campaign, or survey research experience? Do you want to help one of the oldest peace and justice organizations learn and grow its research practice? Join the Research and Analytics team in the Communications Unit of the American Friends Service Committee.
We are seeking a Research Assistant intern for a paid, six-month internship with the possibility of extension. The Research Assistant will be responsible for collecting and managing data as part of a project assessing U.S. public opinion on conflict and nonviolence. The intern will work remotely and will be supervised by the Director of Research and Analytics. This role will have a high degree of autonomy to shape this project but will also benefit from mentoring at AFSC as well.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities: The key responsibilities of the Research Assistant internship include the following:
- Conduct meta-analysis of existing U.S. public opinion polling on conflict and nonviolence. Identifying polls for inclusion.
- Conduct background research (e.g. finding comparative case studies, conducting literature reviews)
- Draft and present report of findings in a variety of settings. Network with other researchers as needed.
- Other research and communications duties as assigned by the Director of Research and Analysis
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
- Quantitative analysis skills.
- Critical reading, writing, and analysis.
- Experience analyzing opinion polling data.
Other Required Skills and Abilities:
- Commitment to Quaker values and testimonies. Understanding of and compatibility with the principles and philosophy of the American Friends Service Committee including non-violence and the belief in the intrinsic worth of every individual.
- Understanding of and commitment to the principles, concerns, and considerations, of AFSC in regard to issues of race, class, nationality, religion, age, gender and sexual orientation, and disabilities. Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse staff.
Compensation: $15/hour, part-time (approximately 10-15 hours per week arranged around the intern’s schedule and the Research team schedule) for 6 months with the possibility of extension. The intern will gain experience in the following areas:
- Quantitative and secondary research
- Research project management
- Reporting on research results to different audiences, including senior staff
This is a part-time, paid internship at $15/hour. The American Friend’s Service Committee can also work with the intern’s school to arrange course credit if needed.
