What Your Job Will Be Like


The Field Intelligence Element (FIE) Cyber Security Operations Team is seeking a motivated and driven graduate student to join our Cyber Assurance Team as a Year Round Technical Intern. We perform accreditation and assessment services in alignment with NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF) to ensure our information systems maintain appropriate confidentiality, integrity, and availability in support of our Intelligence Customers. Our Cyber Assurance Internship will give you an incredible opportunity to participate in our team’s delivery of compliant, risk-managed information systems for today’s most critical national security information systems.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Partner with Cyber Assurance Team in the delivery of information assurance services
  • Analyze and provide input to how NIST Special Publications 8xx Policies are applied
  • Develop and maintain system security plans (SSPs)
  • Ensure systems are operated, maintained, and disposed of in accordance with security policies and procedures as outlined in the security authorization package
  • Manage and control changes to system configurations, and assess the security impact of those changes
  • Conduct periodic reviews of information systems, including validation testing, to ensure compliance with the security authorization package
  • Determine security requirement gaps and provide recommendations or mitigations for addressing the gaps
  • Provide recommendations to our internal team leadership on a regular basis

This position is located in Albuquerque, NM. Flexible working arrangements may be an option for this role.

Qualifications We Require


You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Earned bachelor's degree
  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited graduate program
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire

  • Current enrollment in a Master’s degree program with a major in Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Assurance (IA), or other relevant discipline,
  • Bachelor’s degree in in Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Assurance (IA), or other relevant discipline,
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Security Clearance, DOE SCI Security Clearance, and potentially Other Government Agency Security Clearances, and/or Special Access Program clearances which may require a polygraph test.

The FIE Cyber Security Operations Team supports the Field Intelligence Element mission by ensuring effective cyber information assurance services and technical solutions for various Intelligence Community (IC) missions. This includes system accreditations and assessments, cyber security engineering, continuous monitoring, TEMPEST evaluations, incident response, and COMSEC services and support. Our team consists of a variety of professionals to deliver these services, including Information Systems Security Managers (ISSMs), Information Systems Security Officers (ISSOs), Information Systems Security Engineers (ISSEs), TEMPEST professionals, and COMSEC professionals.

Security Clearance
