Northrop Grumman is seeking a Strategy Analyst Intern who is interested in thinking about the strategic business challenges of the aerospace and defense industry, the future needs of military aviation customers, and their implications for driving sector strategic growth. This position will be located at our Aeronautics Systems Sector in Redondo Beach, CA, Falls Church, VA or remotely. The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman's Strategy and Business Development organization.

Job duties can include:

  • Strategic projects - Provide support on sector strategic projects involving transactional and investment decisions: defining the problems, developing hypotheses, structuring analyses, collecting data, and communicating findings succinctly and thoughtfully. Outcomes may include recommendations on go-forward investments and strategies; and execution of partnerships, intellectual property, and site selection strategies.
  • Market Assessment - Research market conditions in local, regional, national and international segments to determine potential sales of a product or service. Perform analyses in the areas of product preferences, potentials, sales coverage, market size, penetration, marketing practices and trends, and prepares forecasts and recommendations.
  • Customer and Competitor Landscape Assessment - Keep informed about developments in the government, military, and economic, scientific, political, industrial, and international fields as they apply to the organization's future marketing plans. Collect and maintain information on the requirements, organization, budget, and preferences of prospective customers and competitors. Gather data on competitors and analyzes their strategies, prices, sales, and method of operation. Organize information to assist in analyzing future products and make recommendations for the development of new products or services.

Basic Qualifications for a Strategy Analyst Intern

A candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university AND graduating after August 2022.
  • Be majoring in Business, Finance, Economics, Data Analytics, International Business, International Relations or related field with interest in strategy, strategic planning, or strategic studies.
  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher (unofficial academic transcripts must be provided at time of application by uploading the documents to your application or profile)
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)
  • Be enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university AND graduating after August 2022
  • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2022
  • Background in quantitative (i.e. Excel, Tableau) and qualitative analysis.
  • Strong work ethic and a high level of curiosity.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS/MBA
  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0 or higher.
  • Previous internship/co-op or other work experience, leadership & teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular).
  • Experience in Mergers & Acquisitions, competitive intelligence, technology scouting, investment banking, consulting, data analytics with application, strategic planning or market assessments.
  • Proximity to Redondo Beach, CA or Falls Church, VA.

Intern Pay Range:

  • [Bachelor’s]: $18.50 to $26.25
  • [Master’s]: $29.25 to $33.25

At Northrop Grumman, our internship pay rates and standardized and take into account three main factors: the anticipated graduation date of the individual, the cost of labor of the geographic location, and whether the internship is considered technical or administrative.




Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
