Job Description

The Office of the Massachusetts State Treasurer and Receiver General requires staff to have received COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. To be considered fully vaccinated, individuals must have received two doses of the approved Pfizer/Moderna COVID-19 vaccine or single dose of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. Finalist will be given details about how to demonstrate receipt of vaccination.

About the Massachusetts State Retirement Board

The Massachusetts State Retirement Board (MSRB) administers the Massachusetts State Employees' Retirement System (MSERS) for state employees and certain other employees of public entities. The MSERS is a contributory defined benefit system governed by Massachusetts General Law Chapter 32. The system provides retirement, disability, survivor, and death benefits to its members and their beneficiaries.

Purpose of the Job:

The Training and Support Intern will be responsible for assisting with the development of a newly tooled New Hiring Training Program based on the current pre-existing New Hire Training program contents. This new training program will incorporate microlearning aspects and modules which are proven to be the most engaging training delivery method available. Micro training delivers short bursts of content for learners to study at their convenience. Content should always be short including: text phrases, short paragraphs, images, illustrations, short videos audio clips quizzes, tests, and games (e.g., simple single-screen challenges). The intern will research additional current micro training trends and best practices to incorporate and implement them to modernize the current training program. Additionally, the intern will also be creating a presentation through PowerPoint on a future MSRB training project where they will be responsible from the ground up locating the learning objectives through conducting a needs analysis to finalizing the presentation in PowerPoint and presenting remotely to the MSRB internal staff.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Create new micro training materials based off original content in all forms of micro learning including instructional documentation and multimedia modules and forms.
  • Update existing MSRB New Hire materials with guidance from the MSRB Training and Employer Reporting teams
  • Gather existing and create supplemental material if applicable for newly tooled MSRB New Hire Training Orientation.
  • Research new and modern training trends and best practices to use for training project.
  • Create feedback surveys, electronically and/or on paper
  • Compile survey results and share with training team
  • Assist in reviewing results and creating data analytics
  • Attend internal new hire training to gain a solid understanding of high-level business processes and transactions


Qualifications


Knowledge and Skills:

This position will require communicating with MSRB staff at all levels to acquire the necessary knowledge and information to update the presentation materials. The intern should feel comfortable scheduling and leading these efforts.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 products, including OneDrive, Teams, Excel, with an emphasis on PowerPoint and Microsoft Forms
  • Comfortable presenting to internal staff audience in-person and/or on Teams
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail; proficient in proofreading
  • Excellent research skills

2022 Summer Internship Program Details

The Treasury's Summer Internship program is an important vehicle to provide professional work experience to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students as well as in providing firsthand exposure to the types of career opportunities available within the public sector. Treasury provides several professional career paths to explore when considering a career in public finance, accounting, auditing, law, technology, retirement benefits, regulation, debt management, cash management, etc.


Program Eligibility

Must be currently enrolled in high school or pursuing an undergraduate, master's, or JD degree from an accredited institution. Interns must be able to work within the Treasury’s pilot hybrid workplace environment, which requires staff to work in-office a minimum of two days per week. It is also expected that interns have the capability to work remotely.


Program Expectations

The Office of the State Treasurer and Receiver General Summer Internship is a 10-week program at a minimum. It is expected of interns to work between 10-12 hours per week until they satisfy the 10-week minimum or 150-hour commitment. If a student completes the 150-hour commitment in less than 10 weeks, the intern may work additional hours, but the additional hours will not be reflected in their compensation. Subject to management approval.

Work Schedule:

The internship program will allow you to work Monday through Friday (except for holidays) with a 15-hour minimum work week from June to August for a minimum of 10-weeks to a maximum of 12-weeks. Summer interns’ schedules will be in accordance with the Treasury’s Pilot Hybrid Workplace Program, allowing you to work in the office and remotely.


Compensation

To receive a stipend at the end of the program, interns must complete the minimum of 10-week (totaling 150-hours) requirement. High school students will receive a stipend of $1,500, undergraduate students will receive a stipend of $2,000, and graduate students (including doctorate candidates) will receive a stipend of $2,500.
