Nuclear Sciences Division capabilities and efforts are focused in three key areas including Environmental Health and Remediation, Nuclear Regulatory, and Nuclear Energy.
Responsibilities:
Student responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting finite element simulations on high-performance clusters to simulate the thermoforming process of electric vehicle parts made with carbon fiber composite.
- Running crash simulations using FEM software to predict the damage in carbon fiber parts under different loading conditions.
- Developing short python scripts to manage and automate the process to run a large number of simulations on the clusters.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Candidates must be currently enrolled/matriculated in a PhD program at an accredited college.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with finite element methods
- Experience in programming languages (e.g. python)
- Experience using high performance clusters
- Experience working with composite materials
