About the Human Services Team

The Human Services team is an exciting and enthusiastic team committed to advancing social and economic mobility from generation to the next using a 2Generation approach with an applied racial equity lens. As a team, we operate as learners within a team culture of ease which enables us to better execute on strategy. With a racial equity lens, we are laser focused on achieving person-centered systems change that accelerates social and economic mobility for children and families. To accomplish this we work with local, state, and national partners who are reimagining support systems and co-creating solutions with children, families and community partners.

To learn more about our strategy to advance social and economic mobility and how we think about person-centered care, please watch our video at www.kresge.org/programs/human-services.

We invest and partner in the following focus areas:

FOSTERING THE NEXT GENERATION OF HUMAN SERVICES ORGANIZATIONS: Utilizing a cohort-based learning model, we support high-performing organizations characterized as: person-centered; outcomes-based; data-driven; applying a racial equity lens; and focused on greater sector impact and systems-wide change. Working as individual organizations and as a group, these nonprofit and public human services organizations adhere to innovative best practices revolutionizing the human services sector such as brain-science informed and whole-family approaches.

BUILDING PLACE-BASED OPPORTUNITY ECOSYSTEMS: We focus efforts in select cities to create sustainable, integrated and person-centered systems of supports and services anchored by nonprofit and public human services organizations.

We also support cross cutting investments and activities: Building on the needs and lessons of our provider and place-based work, we make investments, support learning networks and opportunities, and act as a convener. This work is multi-level, cross sector and includes the areas:

DEVELOPING SUPPORTIVE, ALIGNED PUBLIC POLICY : We support efforts that advance public policy at multiple levels that help people achieve well-being and social and economic mobility (SEM).

BUILDING A MORE ROBUST HUMAN SERVICES FIELD: We support a range of activities to advance the field toward social and economic mobility.
