Jr. Category Specialist-Steel
Summary:
The Jr. Category Specialist-Steel reports directly to the Category Manager and is responsible for issuing purchase orders for all steel coils, laminate coils, and coated sheets to support the Americas Food & Specialty Business multi plant operation. In addition, these orders must also be consistent with the F&S inventory and OCF targets. This role will issue purchase orders for outside processing services and for components (ends, cans) purchased from either domestic sources or from Trivium plants. This role will communicate with the metal suppliers and the plants to track inbound orders to avoid any metal supply disruptions. This position will gather data necessary to evaluate supplier performance and adherence to yearly supply agreements.
Responsibilities:
- Work with Americas Food & Speciality division and plant supply chain managers to propose metal orders to ensure on time delivery to support the plant production plans
- Issue the necessary purchase orders monthly to each steel supplier based on our yearly agreements (qualified specs., volume, pricing), consistent with F&S inventory and OCF targets
- Work with the appropriate Americas F&S teams to issue the necessary purchase orders for purchased end and cans, trial materials, and outside processing services.
- Monitor vendor status reports and inbound shipments and communicate any potential supply disruptions
- Assist accounts payable as needed to help resolve any issues with invoices, including price differences, quantity differences, or missing receipts
- Assist the plant QC managers with claim resolutions as needed
- Gather the necessary data from the plants and the suppliers to put together a yearly scorecard for each supplier that includes delivery and quality performance. Schedule the yearly review and subsequent quarterly reviews each year
- Work with our Global Governance Group and the Americas procurement teams where applicable
- Other duties as assigned
Experience & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in metal packaging and steel procurement
- Experience in manufacturing, preferably metal packaging
- Knowledge of production planning and understanding of inventory management as related of OCF.
- Ability to analyse facts in a well-structured analysis to make informed decisions to generate business value
- Owner mindset, self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a cross-functional team environment
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills with ability to present with confidence to all audiences
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple cross departmental projects at the same time and understanding key milestones to achieving project goals
- Understanding of data systems, policies and procedures that impact procurement function
- Proficient in MS Office: Word, Excel, Office and Teams; SAP
Work Environment:
This position will primarily work in an office environment and/or remote work from home, where sitting for prolong periods of time and using a computer, telephone and other office electronics are critical. This position will also be exposed to working on the manufacturing floor, where moving machinery produces noises.
