PURPOSE

The RDS IT Architect Intern will be part of the RDS IT Enterprise Architecture group building the next generation of innovative hybrid (cloud-based, on-premises) solutions. This provides an opportunity to get in on the ground floor level of something new and exciting for an industry working with the latest and greatest technologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participate in team meetings
• Provide complete and accurate status updates on the intern’s work
• Shadow higher level architects and learn more about their day-to-day responsibilities
• Contribute to the development of truly innovative solutions to support clinical trials business, in an Agile environment
• Develop a good working knowledge and understanding of the clinical trials domain
• Document the key functional requirements of the application through discussions with key stakeholders. Create user flows and capability maps to describe the application that is being prototyped
• Research different technology options and recommend the best possible approach for the solution
• Develop a functioning prototype of the application using the selected technology choices
• Present results of research and development activities, including prototypes and/or product modifications.
• Develop and/or enhance Architecture Solutions – design and define solution components, subsystems, platforms, and integrations fit together to meet the business needs and how the solution fits in with the greater enterprise context, help develop those solutions through proof of concept (POC) research.
• Ensures that key project delivery team members understand the architecture so that the design and implementation will be consistent with the architecture specification.
• Works on understanding the specific business domain and design while creating solutions and making technology decisions for systems.
• Help local Architecture team with practical web-based reporting solutions.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts and skills quickly
• Understanding of software integration (REST, JSON, XML, SOAP, GraphQL)
• Diagramming and modeling experience (Lucid chart or Visio and PowerPoint)
• Understanding of Cloud based platforms and functions
• Web development skills to assist with POC work (HTML, JavaScript, React etc.)
• Object Oriented Programming skills (Python, JavaScript, Java, C#, .Net Framework etc.)
• Understanding of database concepts and technologies (SQL, NoSQL )
• Understanding of architectural principles and patterns is a plus
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
• Flexibility and adaptability to work in a growing dynamic team in a highly visible role.
• Basic awareness of industry and technology that the intern will be working on.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Pursuing Bachelors or Masters in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Preferably a rising junior or senior
