EwingCole is offering a* 3-month Healthcare Design Research internship for the spring of 2022. The position can be remote or hybrid remote/office-based, and the hours are negotiable. We welcome Master’s level students or recent graduates with demonstrated interest and passion for practice-based and applied healthcare architectural, planning, or interior design research.* In this role, you will be collaborating with design and research teams on a variety of projects including literature review, benchmarking, identifying innovation and better practice, and potentially field-based data gathering. You will be working within the healthcare design practice and your primary mentor/manager during the internship will be the Director of Healthcare Design Research and Engagement.

A key role for this position, will be to identify, synthesize, and translate innovative research that links operational and experiential outcomes to design strategies and solutions. The intent is to complete two visual and creative summaries that visualize and synthesize a topic in-depth. While the literature/innovative role will comprise your primary responsibility, you may also have the opportunity to work on client-focused projects, undertake data analyses, and create interactive or web-based resources. We are a client-focused organization, and as such, flexibility to respond to client requests and needs will also shape the day-to-day work.

We are open to discussing your particular areas of interest and the potential to consider other areas of work such as geospatial mapping, generative design, virtual/augmented reality, etc. The research team at EwingCole is multi-disciplinary. Our interests and expertise in design research range from participatory research, decision analysis, and pre- and post-occupancy research to process improvement/improvement science, simulation modeling, operational excellence, process mining, and machine learning.

The successful candidate will bring a passion for research and healthcare, with demonstrated capacity to conduct and create literature review/synthesis and visualization of research for the purposes of informing design.* To be considered for the position, please send us a short statement about your interests and experiences, including specific typologies or topics you have focused on in your student or work practice (i.e. clinic design, emergency departments, social determinants of health, clinician wellness, etc.) and a resume. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a Master's program in Architecture, Interior Architecture, Operations Research, Health Systems, Industrial Engineering, or Healthcare Administration
  • Passion for research and healthcare
  • Strong quantitative and analytical abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
