Timeline:

Internships are 11-12 weeks in duration with the option to start on May 16th, 2022 or June 20th 2022.

The Roles
RMI is seeking an entrepreneurial, motivated, creative-minded intern to work across the Communications and Marketing team. This is a real opportunity to apply your marketing and communications skills on a variety of projects.
We are seeking an intern with a strong desire to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy and tackle climate change. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and the desire to work with a team in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Interns will assist with daily operations such as writing stories and blogs, drafting media, supporting creative production, updating the Web site, building media lists, and assisting our communications and marketing team embedded in RMI’s programs, such as Buildings, Electricity, Transportation, Industry and Global Energy Transitions sectors.
We have two specific positions available for summer 2022. Both positions are based remotely and will report to the Strategic Communications Director and the Lifecycle Marketing Lead (respectively).
Role 1: Marketing and Communications Generalist
This individual will get to contribute and experience the full suite of marketing and communications tactics, from helping with media and thought leadership, to working with our social media team and editorial staff, to supporting research, metrics, and analytics across RMI’s communications channels.
Key Responsibilities
- Help implement communications and marketing strategy across RMI’s channels by supporting the creation of clear and compelling content to a variety of audiences in support of diverse programs dedicated to securing a clean, prosperous, zero-carbon future for all
- Develop content for promotional materials including newsletters, website, social media, and blog
- Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and tools for marketing and communications
- Help develop creative concepts and marketing strategies for promoting RMI’s work and thought leadership
- Set up meetings/interviews, capture action items, update status reports
- Monitor social media and stay ahead of news events and media trends/conversations in key industries
- Assist with updating the RMI’s external and internal communications content as needed
- Support virtual event logistics and planning as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s program, ideally Sophomore and Junior applicants
- Must be able to work 40 hours per week, over 12 weeks throughout Summer 2022
- Digitally savvy; experience with B2B digital marketing experience is a plus

This is a paid marketing internship for 40 hours per week, over the course of 12 weeks. The intern will work remotely and communicate and collaborate with RMI staff virtually by email, phone, internal messaging platform, and video conferencing software.
Role 2: Lifecycle Marketing
RMI is seeking a Lifecycle Marketing Intern to support and execute RMI’s Lifecycle Marketing strategy.
The ideal candidate will have experience planning and executing email marketing campaigns in Pardot or Marketing Cloud Salesforce platforms.
This position will work closely with other Communications team members, including media, social, editorial, and design. The role will support audience segmentation strategies and marketing automation goals to engage and motivate key industries, stakeholders, and audience segments to ultimately influence energy sector decision-making
As such, the ideal candidate will exhibit curiosity toward each program’s focus areas, be proficient in tailoring communications for different audiences, and excel at coordinating and working with internal partners, including RMI programs, the Development team, and the Corporate Engagement team.
This position is based remotely and reports to the Lifecycle Marketing Lead.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop a marketing strategy that highlights the impact of RMI’s work on communities around the world, including the content, cadence,
- Partner with Development team, Corporate Engagement Director, and R&C teams to plan the Impact Series’ touchpoints across channels and in support of RMI’s theory of change for diverse audience segments
- Support Lifecycle Marketing Lead in the following areas as needed:
- Support subscriber database clean-up, data enrichment, and audience segmentation
- Test new marketing channels for RMI, including but not limited to SMS messaging, in-product, and direct mail;
- Plan and execute a/b split testing strategy for email and other lifecycle campaigns; including partnering with Web team to implement a/b testing on RMI.org with the goal of optimizing subscriber opt-in experience; and
- Support Web and Media teams and external vendors on SEO, Sponsored Social, and Paid Media marketing plans.

- Master content writing and ad / creative building to inform our diverse audience of C-suite leaders, businesses, NGOs, government, policymakers, researchers, engineers, journalists/media and more.
- Develop an eye for a sharp, relevant news angle in the energy & environment field.
- Learn how to craft nuanced pitches for key media outlets and sell in these stories to the press
- Work alongside our Marketing & Communications team to test and refine our social media and email platforms.
- Exposure to the organization of 260 clean energy-focused researchers, operations staff and senior leaders.

Payment
Each intern will be paid $20.00 per hour (or equal to, dependent on academic funding participation).
