AARP Foundation Development Team is seeking a creative, self-motivated, and detail-orientated intern. This intern will support the Development team and rotate between the following units: Direct Response, Corporate and Foundations Fundraising, Major and Planned Gift, and Development Operations. The intern will support fundraising activities, support at least one virtual fundraising engagement event during their internship and help to develop fundraising strategies and tactics.

Responsibilities:
As an intern, you will:
  • Create/support at least one fundraising engagement event during the internship
  • Assist and execute short-term and long-term strategies for fundraising
  • Work to build long term strategies for donor growth and retention
  • Assist with (a) organizing special campaigns, (b) researching potential donors
  • Send mailings and invitations
  • Provide current donors and members with information as requested
Qualifications:
Prospective interns must be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students; and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship. AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program.

  • Experience in nonprofit fundraising preferred but not required
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work on multiple projects with attention to detail
