As the Partner Architect your primary focus is aimed at working with our strategic ecosystem partners to build solutions that amplify the value of our SASE platform. Collaborating with the entire partner ecosystem to identify, develop, accelerate, up-sell and close transactions is critical. Without you and the work of your partners, the money doesn’t flow in! You will help in defining compelling and competitively differentiated capabilities, understanding our market and customers deeply, and collaborating with engineers and other Product Managers to identify new investment opportunities. The team is a fast-paced, startup-like environment where you will have the opportunity to help build this new business from the ground up while developing skills in cutting-edge technologies. Our product is growing rapidly in many directions, and you will have the opportunity to work on projects that are both compelling to you and valuable to our business.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes you will work toward completing?

  • In your first 2 weeks, you will come up to speed on our SASE platform. You’ll also start to get to know stakeholders and collaborators – critical to get your job done well.
  • By week 3 – you will be working with your manager and mentor to define the scope of your project work. You will be researching the technologies, product, and market areas relevant to your project.
  • For the remainder of your internship, you will learn and apply OKR principles in pursuit of the outcomes defined in your project scope. This could include holding conversations with partners, working with engineers, customers, sales, and marketing teams to continue learning and testing your hypotheses, and writing documents that help define our future product development (e.g. product requirements, product strategy, competitive analysis, pricing or go-to-market strategy).
  • At the end of your internship, you will have a readout with myriad leaders including product managers, marketing, sales in the organization. This is your opportunity to showcase the work you have done. The key deliverable here is typically a readout of a document you have written (e.g. a feature strategy document), or a presentation of the outcomes from your project.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • Build effective business relationships with partner managers, marketplace leads, and business development managers.
  • Develop high-quality alue Cases and assist in ROI and TCO analysis.
  • Build Technology and Transformation Strategies, ensuring consistent value realization for VMware clients.
  • Spread best practices among accounts/account teams and elevate strategic mindshare with those accounts.

Your typical key duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Design, build and maintain solution integration labs for validating designs, testing integration with different partners.
  • Understand partner solutions and work with them to build combined solutions.
  • Test cloud integration projects in virtualized environments.
  • Understand inner workings of different applications and come up with solutions to optimize the application performance with VMware SD-WAN solutions.
  • Work closely with CSPs such as Azure/AWS/GCP and build automated SD-WAN solutions with help of Cloudformation/ARM templates and scripts.
  • Support sales team in architecting VMware SD-WAN solutions in cloud environment.
  • Act as a good steward of VeloCloud resources to ensure effective use.

Key Qualifications and Requirements

  • Current MBA student (or M.S. student with proven business acumen).
  • Bachelor's degree, focus on technical, engineering, software, networking, programming, etc
  • 3+ years’ experience in Networking and cloud related areas highly desirable
  • High level of proficiency and experience with TCP/IP networking, architecture, and core technologies, such as BGP, OSPF, DNS, HTTPS etc
  • Proficiency in scripting/programming with Python, perl, etc.
  • General understanding of enterprise networking design and architecture such as WAN Edge, Core, and Internet Edge
  • Hands on experiences with different products and technologies commonly seen in Enterprise network, including routers, switches, firewall, VPN concentrator, Wireless LAN, hypervisors, Windows, Linux, etc.
  • Familiarity with Linux and network analysis tools such as iptables, tcpdump, traceroute, etc.
  • Virtualization experience with VMware and KVM.
  • Cloud service experience including AWS and Azure

  • Ability to manage multiple parallel projects, ensure on-time delivery, and report progress and status to executives.

The hiring manager for this role is a Sr. Director of Strategic Partnerships - SEBU.

Joseph is responsible for driving and accelerating sales strategy to execution for VMware’s top hyperscaler partners. Joseph previously held sales leadership roles managing AT&T Global and Asia Pacific sales teams. Prior to joining VMware, Joseph was Asia Pacific Regional Vice President for VeloCloud.

Our team works remotely and is distributed across the United States.

Where is this role located?

Remote: The location of this role is flexible within the United States and the team operates on a remote-first basis. There may be opportunities to meet other team members in person depending on timing and location. You can elect to work out of a VMware office location if there is one in your city and that is your preference.
