BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNEMENT:

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.

The Hunger Monitoring Unit (RAMAH) in WFP’s Research Assessment and Monitoring (RAM) Division manages WFP’s global hunger monitoring systems, building upon the successes of the mobile Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping (mVAM) initiative. This entails the establishment and oversight of WFP’s near real-time food security monitoring systems in over 30 countries in partnership with other UN agencies and joint food security platforms, as well as developing advanced analytical approaches to ensure timely and holistic views of the food security situation globally. Data from these systems flows into the HungerMapLIVE (hungermap.wfp.org), WFP’s global hunger monitoring system, and is made available through resources such as Global, Regional and Country Insights and Key Trends, enabling decision makers to monitor the situation effectively, identify problems in near real-time and adopt early mitigation actions.

The Hunger Monitoring Unit is currently seeking a Programme Management Junior Consultant to support specific programme management tasks, with a focus on the near real-time food security monitoring workstream, and contribute to the broader team’s work.

3. Draft, review, update and provide inputs to guidance notes, learning material and papers produced for publication and dissemination related to near real-time monitoring and predictive analytics.

4. Support administrative and contractual processes relating to the implementation of near real-time food security monitoring systems, including the coordination of purchase orders, the preparation of scopes of work, sampling and questionnaire for household surveys, as needed.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

  • Weekly food security updates are developed, and key products are published and disseminated with various internal and external stakeholders.

  • HungerMapLIVE products are regularly reviewed and improved, including by liaising with the software development team and other team members to incorporate regular feedback on products.
