We are looking for a daring self-starter to join the Label Operations team. This role is based in New York and will help address our operational challenges as Spotify’s business continues to expand and change. This is an exciting opportunity for a college student who is interested in the music industry and is looking to tackle a big challenge on a growing team at the most innovative company in the business.

The Label Operations Team is the owner of royalty configuration and reporting, provides royalty-related support to Spotify’s label partners, and coordinates cross-functionally between the various teams involved in the royalty process at Spotify. The intern will help with drafting responses to label finance team royalty questions, configuring rates in Spotify’s royalty system, and running the monthly reporting process.
Audition for this role if you are comfortable working independently in a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment, are interested in music royalties and licensing, and are aligned with Spotify’s “Band Manifesto” values: innovative, sincere, passionate, collaborative, and playful.
What you'll do
- Work with Label Operations team to make required changes to our royalty contracts in our royalty system and perform baseline checks of financial data to ensure correctness
- Learn about sophisticated royalty concepts and draft appropriate responses to royalty-related questions from label finance teams
- Track team’s internal performance metrics and compile in informational + concise manner for month-end Accounting deck
- Assist with the monthly reporting process to Spotify’s record label licensors, including daily interaction with the offshore technical team responsible for data generation/validation/delivery
- Provide a high level of customer service to Spotify’s label partners regarding their royalty-related issues, including but not limited to: onboarding of new direct licensors for monthly report delivery, troubleshooting delivery issues, and ad hoc delivery of financial data
Who you are
- College student planning to graduate in 2022 and pursuing BA or BS degree in one of (or related to) the following fields: finance, accounting, music business
- Currently have valid work authorization to work in the country in which this role is based that will extend from June to August 2022
- Incredible writing/communication skills; eager to learn about complex topics and communicate them to external parties
- Organized, flexible, and coachable self-starter
- Deadline oriented - able to work efficiently on a timeline
- Passion for music or entertainment industry
- Interested in working in the field of music royalties, accounting, and finance
- Prior internship experience at a record label or music publisher; specific experience in the royalties department is a big plus
- General understanding of music royalties and the music industry ecosystem
