Role Summary
The Application Security Engineer Intern will function as a member of the global application security team with Sophos. The core areas of focus will be around threat modeling, our bug bounty program, traingin, and working with fellow AppSec peers to help Sophos engineering teams produce increasingly secure software and products.

What You Will Do
  • Assist Sophos engineers teams through participation in security reviews, threat modeling sessions, and other work related to application security.
  • Participate in AppSec training
  • Participate in vendor assessement and selection
  • Help participate and improve in the Sophos bug bounty program
  • Assist with the creation and improvement of internal documentation related to application security initiatives, policies, and guidance. This includes helping improve the intern program using your own experience as a basis to help make things better for future interns. Research and internally present new trends in the application security industry
  • Actively articipate in weekly team meetings, retrospectives, and 1-on-1s

What You Will Bring
  • A high-level understanding of the standard Software Delivery Lifecycle (SDL) model
  • Conceptually familiarity with standard AppSec concepts such as threat modeling
  • Awareness of typical AppSec tool categories such as SAST, SCA, DAST, IAST, RASP
  • 6 to 12 months of experience in writing software/scripts and using git as source control; the equivalent of completing two to three FreeCodeCamp.org curriculum paths
  • Strong conceptual familiary with the OWASP Top 10; you should be able to discuss them fairly well
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and comfort presenting technical topics to peers
  • Ability to learn quickly, ask meaningful questions, and work as a member of team
