Communications Intern

This internship is for students who are interested in working year round and is available to start immediately. The job requires a mix of work from home and onsite at our Omaha headquarters so that you get the full benefit of collaborating with our team and learning our business. You must be able to work 15-25 hours while in school, and full-time during the summer...and we'll work with you on flexing your work days around your school schedule. It's a great opportunity to really have an immediate impact on our business.
Union Pacific is accepting online applications for a student internship position in the Workforce Resources Department (Human Resources) in Omaha, Nebraska. The intern will support day-to-day functions and assist with creating, writing, and editing content for internal communication channels as well as a variety of digital media platforms, some of which will be focused on Union Pacific's hiring efforts. Additional responsibilities include developing presentations, drafting policy language, and handling internal communications in support of streamlining messaging and branding across the department.
Accountabilities
- Support a variety of content development for internal projects, slide presentations, external partner programs, and daily operational tasks
- Create and edit engaging content for public-facing websites and company social media platforms
- Collect and analyze data to effectively communicate impression results and drive actionable impact
- Moderate recruiting social media channels
- Publish social media content on recruiting channels to optimize effectiveness
- Assist with project management for various department initiatives
- Collaboratively establish and maintain brand standards for the department across all communication channels
Qualifications
Required- College credit equivalent to two years toward an undergraduate degree and currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program focused on Marketing, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English, or a closely aligned field of study
- Advanced planning and organizational skills, creativity, and professionalism in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient communication skills including strong writing skills and AP Style
- Basic project management skills including the ability to plan and manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
- 1 or more years of demonstrated experience in managing social media content and/or account(s) for a corporation and/or university-related and/or academic, nonprofit, or for-profit organizations
- 1 or more years of experience in communications demonstrating effective business writing and editing skills. Strong preference will be given for prior experience as writer/editor for university newspaper and/or academic, nonprofit, or for-profit organizations
