Intern, Robotics Research
As a 2022 Intern at Autodesk Research, you'll work towards building advanced robotics software, capabilities and applications. We are a team of researchers, engineers, and industry domain experts working on projects that range from reinforcement-learning, deep-learning, computer vision, motion planning, simulation, human-robot cooperation and more for robotic applications in manufacturing and construction.
We are looking for interns interested in any of the following areas:
- robotics software for complex manipulation tasks
- reinforcement learning for manipulation
- deep learning for vision and other sensing modalities
- integrated demos and applications for industrial manufacturing tasks
We have state of the art industrial robots, computing and sensing capabilities in-house for building full systems demonstrations and advanced research at Pier 9 in San Francisco, with a beautiful view of the San Francisco Bay. We also welcome remote internships.
Autodesk's Robotics Lab is active in the wider research community, targeting publications at ICRA, IROS and other top-tier conferences. We collaborate with top academic labs, combining the best of an academic environment with product-driven research.
Responsibilities
- Design and implementation of new capabilities in a variety of topics including robotics software, robotic manipulation, deep-learning for vision and other sensing modalities, compliant control, reinforcement learning
- Work with the team to build integrated robotic applications
- Improve existing software
- Communicate ideas, problems, and results with the team
- Collaborate with researchers and developers in the team
- Co-publish with Autodesk Robotics and AI Lab collaborators
- Read papers and perform literature reviews
- Evaluate existing algorithms and reproduce results on specific datasets
Minimum Qualifications
- Full-time student pursuing an MS or Ph.D. in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Mechanical Engineering or an affiliated discipline in an accredited program with at least one academic term to complete post-internship
- Broad understanding of one or more of the following: robotics, machine learning, deep learning, robotics software, computer vision, generative design, CAD
- Excellent Programming and software development skills, with experience in Python/C++, and git.
- For learning-based projects: Proficient with ML & DL platforms & libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow, RAY, etc.)
- For robotics-based projects: Prior experience developing and working with robotics and simulation software
- Experience conducting research and publishing results
- An excellent communicator and a team player
- Interest or experience in developing industrial robotic applications
Preferred Qualifications
- For learning-based projects: Deep expertise in an area such as computer vision, deep learning, reinforcement learning, unsupervised/self-supervised learning, meta-learning
- For robotics-related projects: Practical experience with building and integrating robots and 2D/3D vision, F/T sensing or similar sensing modalities to do contact-based manipulation tasks using deep learning/reinforcement learning/compliant control/motion planning
About the US Intern Program
The U.S. program runs from May through August for 12 weeks and will be remote (subject to change). All internships are paid. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects, be mentored by industry leaders, work alongside peers from universities all over the country and participate in tech talks and other activities designed to support your personal and professional development. US recruiting begins in the Fall and concludes end of March.
