Program Description
Serco’s Training and Experience Program (STEP) is designed to provide undergraduate university and college students paid accredited internship opportunities to gain meaningful, hands-on work experience in a professional environment. STEP emphasizes developing the workforce of the future. Our goal is to help you build a career roadmap that provides you with challenging and rewarding learning experiences with Serco.

Serco offers internship opportunities across the following three career tracks: Business, Technical, and Engineering. Our 2022 internship opportunities are available throughout the U.S. and Canada and begin on May 23rd and conclude on August 12th, with 1 week off July 4th – 8th. You will work with your manager to identify the best working schedule for you – working no more than an average of 36 hours a week with the added perk of half-days on Fridays.

In addition to gaining hands-on experience, you will attend training sessions taught by skilled leaders in our company which provides training to better prepare you for a full-time career. These training sessions range from finance, personality in the workplace, presentation skills, resume building, and more. In addition, we believe great ideas come from all levels of the company! Because of that, each year we challenge our interns to work in diverse teams to develop, propose and execute on a project that improves our ways of working. Throughout this project you will work with Senior Sponsors and meet with members of our Executive Team.

Position Description
The Database Intern provides the Business Development organization with access to proposal artifacts that can be of value to support organic and new business growth. This position will retrieve, upload, and maintain proposal artifacts and ensure the relevancy, accuracy, and currency of those artifacts within MS SharePoint Office 365.

In this internship, you will work with members of the Capture Management and Proposal Unit and the SharePoint Project team over the course of the internship. The main project is to design the structure to organize and maintain data associated with project summaries from one or more of the business units. This project will provide you with the transparency into the work performed at Serco and, importantly, how the artifacts are used to expand the business.

Responsibilities
  • Design a method to collect program summary information from Program Managers within the business units (BUs)
  • Organize program summary information so users can easily find what they need
  • Design a method to verify the accuracy and recency of the program summary information
  • Upload and maintain program summary information into SharePoint
  • Facilitate training of members within the Capture Management and Proposal Unit on how to interact with SharePoint to obtain desired program summary information
  • Archive materials from SharePoint team sites that were Won, Loss, No Bid, etc.
  • Catalog materials in SharePoint for future access, ensuring they are not lost and forgotten.
  • Instruct personnel supporting or providing information/material for entry into the knowledge center.
Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Preferred fields of study: Data Science, Data Management, or a related field of study.
  • Ideal candidates are rising seniors.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS SharePoint preferrable Office 365 Azure Cloud)
  • Experience working with and accessing databases; organizing data elements into relational database structures; data retrieval and maintenance
  • Self-motivated, highly discipline with a strong work initiative and attention to detail.
  • Strong customer service, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating in a team environment.
  • Passion for learning with a wide degree of creativity and curiosity.
