Position Description:
Serco’s Training and Experience Program (STEP) is designed to provide undergraduate university and college students paid accredited internship opportunities to gain meaningful, hands-on work experience in a professional environment. STEP emphasizes developing the workforce of the future. Our goal is to help you build a career roadmap that provides you with challenging and rewarding learning experiences with Serco.
Serco offers internship opportunities across the following three career tracks: Business, Technical, and Engineering. Our 2022 internship opportunities are available throughout the U.S. and Canada and begin on May 23rd and conclude on August 12th, with 1 week off July 4th – 8th. You will work with your manager to identify the best working schedule for you – working no more than an average of 36 hours a week with the added perk of half-days on Fridays.
In addition to gaining hands-on experience, you will attend training sessions taught by skilled leaders in our company which provides training to better prepare you for a full-time career. These training sessions range from finance, personality in the workplace, presentation skills, resume building, and more. In addition, we believe great ideas come from all levels of the company! Because of that, each year we challenge our interns to work in diverse teams to develop, propose and execute on a project that improves our ways of working. Throughout this project you will work with Senior Sponsors and meet with members of our Executive Team.
Position Description
The Serco IT PMO is also in the process of updating internal project management processes and templates and transitioning from Waterfall project management practices to Agile / DevOps.

**This internship can be offered 100% virtually, 100% in person or a hybrid of both for candidates living near the Serco headquarters office in Herndon, VA. Serco follows all CDC state and local COVID-19 recommendations and ensures the safety of all on-site employees.**

Position Description
The Serco IT Project Management Office (PMO) manages complex internal IT projects for the enterprise. The PMO team is responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring the execution of complex projects across the Serco IT department. Their mission is to ensure that projects deliver the agreed-upon scope on time and on budget. They deliver that by facilitating collaboration across teams to develop plans, manage risk and resolve complex issues.
The Serco IT PMO is also in the process of updating internal project management processes and templates and transitioning from Waterfall project management practices to Agile / DevOps.
As a PMO Intern, you will conduct research to identify best practices for transitioning project management practices from Waterfall to Agile. You will also support IT projects, gaining exposure to project management processes and best practices while interacting with global project teams. This is an exciting opportunity to grow your skills in project management, establishing process maps, collaborating in groups, and learning to think strategically and anticipate business needs.
Responsibilities
- Research existing project management processes from global partners and tailor to meet US standards.
- Build process maps to support PMO project management process.
- Develop supporting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Update project management templates.
- Provide support for existing IT project planning as needed.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Preferred fields of study: Business, Technology, Communications, or a related field of study.
- Ideal candidates are risings juniors and seniors.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with familiarity in process diagraming tools such as Visio.
- High aptitude for Technology.
- Self-motivated with a strong work initiative and attention to detail.
- Strong customer service, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating in a team environment.
- Passion for learning with a wide degree of creativity and curiosity.
