VMware Edge Network Intelligence is a highly scalable and intelligent cloud native AIOps platform using ML/AI and big data analytics. Built for CIOs, network operations, and helpdesk personnel managing heterogeneous enterprise environments, our product is focused on the end-user experience by helping IT staff gain new insights into client access conditions, network service behavior, and enterprise application issues that impact user performance.

This is a backend role responsible for API design, development, and cross VMware product integration using REST and GraphQL running on top of Ruby on Rails, NodeJS, and akka. If you’re interested in using modern webapp frameworks, Docker containers, microservices, K8, and various languages to build products, this is the team you want to join.

What type of work will you be doing an intern? What assignments or requirements will you be performing on a regular basis?

Depending on your background, interest, and technical alignment to the various areas of ENI technology stack, you could be working on team projects. The most important item to remember about a VMware as an intern is that it’s all about potential and learning. We want our interns to be well rounded individuals driven to learn new things.

As an intern on this team, you’ll work on:

The work will involve primarily backend API development used by customers and internal teams including UI, mobile app, and customers. You will also work on integrating other VMware products (e.g. SD-WAN) with Edge Network Intelligence. As part of the job, you will be working with various teams including UI/UX, mobile app, platform, and analytics. You take complete ownership of your tasks end-to-end which includes design, implementation, unit testing and deployment.

What are skills that would be helpful for a successful internship?

You will need to code in NodeJS, Ruby, and/or Python. We expect you to have familiarity in at least one of the major webapp frameworks: NodeJS, RoR, or Django. You will need to interact with Cassandra for time series data, Elasticsearch for search and incidents, and Mongo for configuration, hence you should have hands-on experience with nosql DB(s).
