The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) interns work on a wide range of assignments and projects. An intern may be assigned one primary project, or their supervisor may choose to assign them a variety of assignments. Attend trainings to aid in their development as Public Health professionals. Supervisors and interns develop a mentoring relationship; attend public health professional conferences. Numerous educational and networking opportunities are provided to CDPH interns.
Conditions of Employment
This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
UEI is not a multi-state employer. UEI only employs candidates who live and work in the state of California. If selected for the position you must reside in California and all worked must be performed in the state of California.

Work Schedule
Flexible hours, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm. Final work schedule to be determined by supervisor.

Additional Work Schedule
Student Assistants and Graduate Student Assistants generally work up to 20 hours per work week (Sunday-Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per work week during breaks; (Winter, Spring and Summer).

Minimum Qualifications
This position requires the incumbent to maintain consistent and regular attendance; communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) in dealing with the public and/or other employees; develop and maintain knowledge and skill related to specific tasks, methodologies, materials, tools, and equipment; complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner; and, adhere to departmental policies and procedures.

Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.

Preferred Qualifications
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the wide variety of coordination, analysis, planning and documentation for the center/office.
- Collaborate with partners and employees to plan, implement and evaluate programs.
- Assist in center/office/program efforts in monitoring and tracking Health Program Activities, access web-based educational resources and contribute to the dissemination of data.
- Assist in the Development, implementation and revision of standardized operating procedures.
- Participate in intern specific training and other identified trainings, meetings, and public health conferences that further the intern’s knowledge.
- Monitor and track program activities using excel or other software.
- Develop PowerPoint slides, data tables, graphs or other documents needed for meetings/presentations.
- Attend various meetings and trainings as assigned.
- Create meeting agenda and meeting notes.
- Review and Develop documents, letters, marketing materials, presentations or other materials.
Example Projects:
1. Assist with Office of Oral Health efforts in monitoring and tracking Local Oral Health Program Activities, access web-based educational resources for oral health, and contribute to the dissemination of oral health surveillance data.
2. Engage with the Center for Family Health staff in activities and projects for Electronic Benefits Transfer project.
3. Assist Office of Quality Performance and Accreditation with tasks related to Wellness, designing flyers, coordinating interns with events/activities.
4. Provide support for Centers for Healthy Communities staff around Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Branch research and evaluation section.
Physical Requirements
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers and scanners with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Work is performed in an office environment with the possibility of remote work.
