The job

Buildertrend is looking for a User Research Intern who will help elevate the practice of research with creative but rigorous qualitative, quantitative, and/or design research methods. The right candidate will be an effective communicator, passionate about understanding people, curious about the relationship between data, technology, and society, comfortable in a flat, fast-moving organization, and a great collaborator. You will help with large research projects (generative and evaluative) and support the research efforts of the larger product team of designers, product analysts, and developers.

• Schedule, conduct, and document research interviews to learn more about our customers and how to best improve their experiences
• Conduct research studies by applying methods such as usability testing, interviews, field research, surveys, and diary studies
• Design and execute studies that address both user behavior and attitudes, using the right methodology for the right questions
• Work closely with product teams, as well as other researchers, to identify important research questions
• Generate insights that shape how product teams think about medium and long-term product strategy
• Work cross-functionally with design, product, data science, content strategy, engineering, and marketing
• Combining qualitative and quantitative customer insights to generate strategic and tactical insights along with actionable recommendations
• Communicate insights in creative and compelling ways
• Comfort with utilizing data to define and support hypotheses

The preferred candidates

• Current junior, senior, or graduate student in a human behavior-related field, such as Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Sociology, Communication, Anthropology, Information Science, Computer Science, Political Science, or Design
• Knowledge of research methods in at least one subset of methods (e.g., survey design and quantitative data analysis, ethnography) - qualitative and/or quantitative research (Preferred)
• Analytical, project management, and problem-solving experience
• Experience with autonomy and independent decision making to weigh tradeoffs and balance demands
• Experience with Excel (and the ability to quickly learn new tools)
• Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
