Junior Investment Professional PSERS
Are you seeking challenging and meaningful work in non-traditional or alternative markets investments overseeing external manager programs? Do you have related experience and knowledge in private equity, private credit, hedge funds, private real estate, private commodities, or private infrastructure? We are looking for someone to support the non-traditional asset class management team in the collection, application, analysis, and reporting of investment and risk data, transactions, and holdings. This position involves the research, recommendation, and implementation of investment decisions at a portfolio, asset class, or fund level, and application and analysis of investment data on internally and externally managed portfolios.
The Pennsylvania Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS, www.psers.pa.gov), is an agency in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that administers the pension plan for Pennsylvania’s public school employees. The mission of PSERS is to maintain a financially sound System that supports over a half million members with a current pension fund of approximately $65 billion. This position will play a contributing part in ensuring PSERS fulfills its mission and values.
PSERS is located in Harrisburg, PA, a mid-size city situated along the Susquehanna River. The Harrisburg area is affordable and near many attractions including Hershey, and it is only two hours from major cities and airports like Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington D.C.
This professional work is comprised of components of investment related responsibilities relevant to the collection, application, analysis, and reporting of investment and risk data, transactions, and holdings. It involves the research, recommendation, and implementation of investment decisions at a portfolio, asset class, or fund level, and application and analysis of investment data on internally and externally managed portfolios.
This employee’s duties will primarily focus on entry level performance of investment operational duties pertaining to Non-Traditional Asset Classes. The employee will be directly supervised by the Manager of Non-Traditional Investment Operations and will work closely with Investment Office Professionals throughout the Investment Office. Work is expected to be performed with a minimal degree of supervision.

WORK SCHEDULE:
7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday with a one-hour lunch.
You will have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
A Bachelor’s degree; OR
Four years performing relevant non- traditional markets investment work; OR
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Successful completion of any of the following professional accreditations may be substituted for relevant work experience:
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA): 1 year per level passed
- Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA): 1 year
- Financial Risk Manager (FRM): 1 year per level passed
- Professional Risk Manager (PRM): 1 year
- Certified Property Manager (CPM): 1 year per 4 courses passed (only applicable to Real Estate positions)
A bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.
If no bachelor’s, then four equivalent years including at least one year performing relevant investment management work in non-traditional or alternative asset classes (private equity, private credit, hedge funds, private real estate, private commodities, or private infrastructure) and applicable professional certificates/levels listed in the METs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- One or more years of relevant non-traditional or alternative asset class (private equity, private credit, hedge funds, and private real estate, private commodity or private infrastructure) experience.
- Completion of one or more of the following certifications: CPA, CFA, FRM, PRM, or CAIA.
- Experience/education on financial auditing.
- Experience/education on performing and researching performance reconciliations.
- Experience/education in what impacts IRR or TWR.
- A internship in a financial, investment, or accounting organization.
