About the role:

Takeda's summer internship program blends real world experience with an extensive overview of the pharmaceutical industry. Knowledgeable mentors will provide guidance as you gain professional hands-on experience. The summer internship program is 12 weeks in length and offers a unique perspective into a world-class pharmaceutical company. Our internship program also provides you the opportunity to network with people at Takeda through various planned events and activities.

Project Outline:

This 12-week summer internship with the Outcomes Research & Data Science (ORDS) team within US Value and Evidence Generation seeks to develop students interested in a career in the pharmaceutical industry in a quantitative-focused role. The internship will focus on value-based contracts, payer insights & partnerships, and exploratory data analysis primarily utilizing administrative claims data, electronic medical records, and modeling. In this remote internship (depending on COVID and on the intern’s location at the time of the internship), the intern will have the opportunity to interact with an interdisciplinary team at Takeda including colleagues in the following roles: Account Medical Leads, Commercial Account Directors, Forecasting, HEOR, Market Access and Channel Strategy, and Strategic Partnerships. By the end of the internship, the student will have a good understanding of value-based contracting and innovative payment models, cross-functional work, estimating and communicating business risk, and the role of exploratory data analysis and payer insights in making decisions within a pharmaceutical company.

  • Innovative problem solving and having the ability to distill and to communicate very advanced data approaches (e.g., methodologies, probability, statistics, etc.) to senior leadership and to internal/external stakeholders are key to the type of work that we do.

What you bring to Takeda:

  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis
  • Must be available full time (40 hours/week) a minimum of 12 weeks during the Summer months
  • Minimum GPA 3.0/4.0
  • Undergraduate, Graduate, PhD, MD student with at least one year of university studies before internship.
    • Preference will be given for students having completed at least one year of a quantitatively-focused graduate degree program (MS or PhD) with a focus on health care including actuarial science, applied data analytics, data science, economics, epidemiology, health services research, outcomes research, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacy administration, or similar degree programs
    • Experience in SAS, R, Python, and/or modeling experience using Excel or similar tools is desirable.
    • Administrative claims data and knowledge of healthcare coding systems is a plus.
  • Return to university for at least one semester post-internship
  • Takeda does not provide student housing or housing stipends

Location & Salary Information:

  • Summer 2022 Internship role will be remotely/hybrid/onsite based
  • Intern pay rate ranges are from $18/hour to $45/hour, depending on students level in their undergraduate or graduate program and level professional experience
