About the role:

Takeda's summer internship program blends real world experience with an extensive overview of the pharmaceutical industry. Knowledgeable mentors will provide guidance as you gain professional hands-on experience. The summer internship program is 12 weeks in length and offers a unique perspective into a world-class pharmaceutical company. Our internship program also provides you the opportunity to network with people at Takeda through various planned events and activities.

Project Outline:

The device test and design lab at 125 Spring St supports – Feasibility, Product Design, Fixture design, Test Method Development, small volume pilot builds testing during all phases of the product development process for all our combination device projects. Currently in development we have Autoinjectors, reconstitution devices, Needle free devices and implantable catheter devices, which account to 11+ development work streams.

The Intern will support the test and design engineers with general device testing and design related activities. Below is a list of the day to day operations the intern would be exposed to.

Testing

Mechanical Testing - The testing can include working on an electromechanical instrument such as an Instron, Zwick or an MTS machines. The testing requires measurements of tensile and compressive forces to meet design requirements for various combination devices that are in development and also commercial devices

CT Scanning- The intern would get the opportunity to utilize our Werth CT Scanner and Volume Graphics analysis software to detect failure analysis inside many of our devices including septum particulation, needle air bubbles, needle penetration and plastic part molding analysis.

Container Closure – This is an essential integrity test conducted on combination devices to test for leaks or sterility breach. The testing here includes development of new fixtures and test method validation for development programs and

Metrology – This operation involves use of vision measurement systems and hand tool to make measurements on molded parts and prototypes

Material Testing – This would involve testing on Rheometers, Viscometers and Densitometers to characterize viscosity and density profiles of drug product and simulants

Design and Prototyping

CAD – Solidworks and PTC Creo are design software that are used to create 3D models for product design and fixture designs. The intern will have exposure and opportunities to apply their skills on both of these applications.

Prototyping – There will be opportunities to work hands on in the fabrication lab, working with Laser Cutting instruments, CNC lathe, Dremel tools and 3D printers. The intern will have the opportunity to work on creating prototypes and fixtures to support testing and development of the various devices.

What you bring to Takeda:

  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis
  • Must be available full time (40 hours/week) a minimum of 12 weeks during the Summer months
  • Minimum GPA 3.0/4.0
  • Undergraduate, Graduate, PhD, MD student with at least one year of university studies before internship.
  • Return to university for at least one semester post-internship
  • Takeda does not provide student housing or housing stipends

Salary & Location:

  • Intern pay rate ranges are from $18/hour to $45/hour, depending on students level in their undergraduate or graduate program and level professional experience.
  • Location is COVID-19 dependent, remote applicants may apply.
