The Summer Internship Program is a vital piece of BECU’s hiring philosophy and strategy. Interns are assigned a mentor in the department in which they will be working. The intern will work closely with their mentor throughout the duration of the internship. The opportunity is more than “sit back and observe”, our interns are integrated into daily duties of their respective departments, attend various meetings, and assist on departmental projects as assigned. This role is remote eligible from WA.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Learn fundamentals of Sustainability & Measurement role; provide business and process expertise for activities related to BECU's sustainability programs, services, and social impact measure.
  • Help support the expansion of Environmental Social Governance framework and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board adoption
  • Learn fundamentals of knowledge of the assigned programs and services, assist with the design of new programs and services, and ensure their proper implementation.
  • Provide process leadership for the evaluation and continuous improvement for processes impacting Community Outreach and members.
  • Primary focus is on day-to-day operational execution, including risk assessment and process/procedure documentation.
  • May occasionally contribution to strategic planning but this is not a main focus of the role.
  • Initiative metrics/analytics
  • Engagement with peers, Sr. Leaders, and Executive Leaders through meetings and project work
  • Presentations to inside clients and outside candidates

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Environmental Science, Social Sciences, Geography or Policy/Law/Compliance degrees preferred, others may be considered; Bachelors and Masters level students
  • Previous experience or course work with an emphasis in environmental sustainability; classes in Geography, Policy, Government, Compliance, Law, Statistics, Project/Program Management preferred
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.7+ required
  • Proven leadership skills either on or off campus preferred
  • Community involvement/volunteerism preferred
  • Participation in extracurricular activities preferred
  • Able to commit to a 12-week program throughout summer
  • Comprehensive Excel skill preferred
  • Strong written communication skills preferred
