The Summer Internship Program is a vital piece of BECU’s hiring philosophy and strategy. Interns are assigned a mentor in the department in which they will be working. The intern will work closely with their mentor throughout the duration of the internship. The opportunity is more than “sit back and observe”, our interns are integrated into daily duties of their respective departments, attend various meetings, and assist on departmental projects as assigned. This role is remote eligible from WA, OR, ID, GA and TX.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

After learning about the basic analytic concepts employed by the Modeling team, the intern will have the opportunity to apply analytic concepts in support of a several potential workstreams. The intern will learn about the business problems confronted by Credit Risk modeling in financial services and collaborate with modeling team staff to analyze and solve those problems. The intern will be exposed to the full life cycle of analytic work, from conceptualization to execution and communication of results. Stretch opportunities will exist for the right candidate to take greater ownership of modeling workstreams.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Economics, Finance, Statistics/Data Science or related degrees preferred, others may be considered.
  • The ideal candidate will be enrolled in a masters or PhD program in Finance, Statistics, Data Science, Economics, or an MBA with a quantitative focus.
  • Programming skill or experience working with advanced statistical packages such as SAS, R, or the advanced analytic features of Microsoft Excel will be helpful for any candidate, but not required.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.7+ required
  • Proven leadership skills either on or off campus preferred
  • Community involvement/volunteerism preferred
  • Participation in extracurricular activities preferred
  • Able to commit to a 12-week program throughout summer
  • Comprehensive Excel skill preferred
  • Strong written communication skills preferred
