The Summer Internship Program is a vital piece of BECU’s hiring philosophy and strategy. Interns are assigned a mentor in the department in which they will be working. The intern will work closely with their mentor throughout the duration of the internship. The opportunity is more than “sit back and observe”, our interns are integrated into daily duties of their respective departments, attend various meetings, and assist on departmental projects as assigned. This role is remote eligible from Washington State.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Public Relations (PR) and Social Media intern will focus on media relations and digital external communications related to projects, such as assisting in the promotion of the BECU internship program, BECU Foundation scholarships and standard BECU programs and events.
  • Gain exposure to all areas of external communications, including PR, social media and blog content.
  • Partner with team in brainstorming and planning communication and content strategy.
  • Support the development of, create and/or publish multimedia content for external channels, including BECU newsroom and social media channels.
  • Assist in researching media trends, develop media lists and support the ideation and/or pitching of trade and local reporters.
  • Measure and report on the success campaigns and announcements using news media database and social media platforms.
  • Engage with Social Impact and Marketing peers, and BECU leaders through meetings and project work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Communications, Public Relations or Marketing degrees preferred, others may be considered
  • Skills that may be helpful: verbal and written communication, experience with AP format, leveraging social media channels for message delivery and brand perception influence, and understanding of multimedia channels for storytelling (video, social, web, etc.)
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.7+ required
  • Proven leadership skills either on or off campus preferred
  • Community involvement/volunteerism preferred
  • Participation in extracurricular activities preferred
  • Able to commit to a 12-week program throughout summer
  • Comprehensive Excel skill preferred
  • Strong written communication skills preferred
